And, of course, if you find that you do not have enough ingredients, even more problems arise. Photography’s Power and Potential for Teaching Psychology

Photography can do something that text on its own often cannot – draw the learner in and evoke curiosity about deeper meaning. When connected to storytelling, photographs can release an emotional response, which educators can harness to help students remember content. I whole-heartedly believe images created through the means of photography can be useful for teaching concepts in psychology or management fields that are new to students or tend to be difficult for them to grasp. Furthermore, photos may be especially helpful to demonstrate the meaning and subjective nature of individuals’ experiences as related to these fields due to the emotions they often evoke.

I hope this collection of photographs will serve as a teaching aid for educators and source of learning for students. I thoroughly enjoyed taking all the photos, editing them, writing compelling stories for each, and designing the book. I particularly believe that visual arts such as photography can help students of varying abilities, prior experiences, and backgrounds learn psychological content a bit more easily than traditional text-heavy books and therefore it was a worthwhile endeavor. I expect the book to push students to explore how various fields can meaningfully be integrated to understand the world around us. This book is an example of how visual arts and the sciences can be paired together to break down some of the illusory silos students often perceive between disciplines. As we go about our days, we understand our experiences in numerous ways including what we notice around us beyond written word. Our environment can illuminate understanding if we let it. Let’s help our students do this purposefully through photography.

Covid-19 has changed the game for non-profits. From client demands to workplace changes to funding limitations, nothing is the same. In the face of the many challenges the Coronavirus pandemic brings, people still rely on the non-profit community as much—and often more—than they ever did. As such, organizations need to quickly and effectively adapt to this new environment.

Much of the guidance put out for non-profits has focused on funding—for example, government and foundation grant loan opportunities like the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Not nearly as many resources have been made available about how to navigate the strategic and operational challenges presented by the Coronavirus. But money only goes so far absent other responsive changes.

To help fill this gap, Snowflake and the Non-profit Alliance of the Northern Shenandoah Valley (NANSV) presented a live, six-part virtual series to educate non-profits about practical considerations in adapting to Covid-19 conditions in May and June 2020. This eBook is a brief summary of that series, intended as a primer for those who could not attend and a reference for those who did participate.

Practical Leadership is an interactive seminar where students receive repeated coaching and real-time feedback on their own leadership capabilities from their peers and the instructor. Prison Escape Instruction - An Online Gamified Activity for an Online Course

In Prison Escape, online students are divided into prisoner and police teams, and they utilise different types of transportation such as cars, buses, taxis and trains to travel on various routes with different nodes as travel stops on a PDF format map which students can download online. The map helps students to visualise where they are on the map and how to ‘catch’ the prisoners or ‘escape’ from the police. Animated YouTube videos have been developed to introduce the online exercise. Online students can use Moodle discussion forums (or any other form of communication such as facebook chat or whatsapp) to share their knowledge and ideas and thus all activities and decisions in the exercise are completely made online. Prison Escape, an interactive, innovative and fun gamified activity, mimics complex real-world experiences (competitive and cooperative behaviours) without requiring students to be in a face-to-face setting. The exercise lasts for three weeks, allowing time for students in their teams to organise, manage and share knowledge/resources as well as to apply skills (e.g. teamwork and critical thinking) in an online environment. Prison Escape should be used in conjunction with assessment strategies which should be carefully developed and integrated to enhance student learning. After the exercise, instructors may ask students to prepare a self-reflective report which helps them to reflect on their own learning journey in the exercise, as well as to understand the course subject knowledge. The exercise and reflective report, when purposefully constructively aligned with course learning outcomes, can assist students to engage with their online peers, to develop critical concepts of the subject matter, and to practise skills that are associated with the course. Este estudo apresenta uma proposta didática para o ensino da disciplina Responsabilidade Socioambiental, para graduandos do curso de Bacharel em Administração, em uma Instituição de Ensino Superior (IES) no município de Abaetetuba, estado do Pará, Amazônia brasileira, abordando os assuntos com uso da Pedagogia Ativa de ensino por projetos, utilizando os recursos didáticos para potencializar o ensino e aprendizagem, possibilitando a esse futuro gestor compreender as questões socioambientais, o diálogo com os atores sociais e a harmonia entre gestão empresarial e gestão ambiental. Underestimating project complexity is widely accepted as one of the major causes of project failure. Based on international benchmarking activities (Merrow, 2010), we know that an average of 40% of projects do not deliver what they promised; for megaprojects in the oil and gas industry this figure is even worse (Ernst&Young, 2014).

As with most external factors, many of the causes and consequences of complexity are difficult to avoid or control. When dealing with complexity, standard practices in the field of project management often overlook the inherent uncertainties linked to the length and scale of engineering and infrastructure projects and their constantly changing environments. The situation is exacerbated by rapidly evolving technologies and social change.

Attempts to overcome these challenges by simply trying to reduce their causes is not enough.

In this course, you will learn our approach to mastering complexity, focused on front-end development and teamwork, which will help you develop the skills you need to make timely actions in order to tackle complexities and improve your chances of project success. You will learn how to enhance your own capacities and capabilities by ensuring you have the necessary balance of complementary skills in your team.

Project success starts with recognizing the main drivers of complexity, which can be highly subjective and highly dynamic. In this course, you will learn to identify what makes a project complex and how to perform a complexity assessment.

Examining the elements of a project (such as interfaces, stakeholders, cultures, environment, technology, etc.) and their intricate interactions is key to mastering complexity.

You will analyze these elements in the context of your own project. Then, based on our complexity framework, you will identify the complexity footprint of your project and use it to adapt your management processes. With personalized guidance and feedback from our world-class instructors, you will learn how to recognize what competencies you need to develop and how to adapt your management style accordingly, not only to improve project performance but also to enhance your decision-making capacity.
