As Conewago Valley School District advances its open educational resource (OER) adoption and implementation plan, OER Commons (https://oercommons.org) provides an OER toolset and immersive professional learning program to assist educators in enhancing their capacities to use, evaluate, curate, and create OER. Leveraging its teaching and learning network and digital library, OER Commons (oercommons.org) launched in 2007, ISKME advances collaboration and continuous improvement of high-quality curriculum.

Participants will get an opportunity to practice using OER tools and begin to design their plans for OER implementation, specific to their immediate OER needs. An important outcome for educators will be a shared understanding of OER practice and specific next steps for OER adoption in their work.

We will offer opportunities for learners to practice exploring the resources and tools, and reflect on how they might use them in their work.

As Conewago Valley School District advances its open educational resource (OER) adoption and implementation plan, Leveraging its teaching and learning network and digital library, OER Commons (oercommons.org) launched in 2007. This is the third of three custom module trainings that will provide participants with an introduction to OER practice and the value add, highlighting successful state and district use cases. Followed by a demonstration and discussion of how to navigate OER Commons and create collaborative workflows to identify resources, assess their quality using rubrics, and organize materials for use. Participants will get an opportunity to practice using OER tools and begin to design their plans for OER implementation, specific to their immediate OER needs. An important outcome for educators will be a shared understanding of OER practice and specific next steps for OER adoption in their work. We have designed these modules to first spark the learner's interest in the topics covered and then dig deeper into the content through presentations, storytelling, and demonstrations of the tools. Contextualised open educational practices: Towards student agency and self-directed learning

This book covers original research on the implementation of open educational practices through the use of open educational resources at the university level. The emphasis on open education in this book is on contextualising resources, supporting student agency and fostering self-directed learning specifically within a South African milieu. The envisaged chapters cover conceptual and review research and empirical work focussing on open educational practices and the use of renewable assessments. The work starts off with an overview of an institutional-wide open education project that prompted the research followed by research on open education in terms of various modules in the health science, music education, law, philosophy, dietetics, anthropology, French language learning, journalism and political science. There is a clear gap in the literature on open education in terms of open educational practices, specifically in terms of contextualising resources, supporting student agency and fostering self-directed learning in a South African context. Despite the existence of some general works on open education in terms of policy, social justice and open textbooks, this book will be unique in exploring the intersections of openness, specifically with contextualisation, student agency and self-directedness.

Schnücker für Arbeitsstelle Hochschuldidaktik der Universität Siegen, these postcard-sized resources have been translated into English, and contextualised for Australia.

The cards are broken into Theory, Practice, Examples, and Resources, and introduce OER to new practitioners whilst also providing examples and tools for anyone to use.

This resource is used to raise staff awareness, to act as a 'ready reference' for practitioners, and as an aid for OER workshops designed to engage staff with OER in their discipline.

Please note that this record contains the final version of the cards, and a .zip package with editable files to make it easier for remix.

CurvedLand: An Applet to Simulate Curved Space

CurvedLand is an applet for showing what the world would look like with different geometry. It is named CurvedLand in tribute to the science fiction novel, Flatland, by Edwin Abbott, which describes the adventures of a two-dimensional being who is visited by a stranger from the third dimension.

One of the central ideas of Einstein's theory of relativity is that space and time curve in response to the matter and energy within them. A curved space is one that doesn't obey the usual laws of Euclidean geometry: the angles of a triangle don't generally add up to 180 degrees, the circumference of a circle isn't pi times the diameter, parallel lines can either converge towards each other or move apart, and so on.

Since the geometry we observe is very close to Euclidean, however, it is hard for most of us to picture what this difference would mean physically. If you draw a circle and a diameter, how could the ratio be anything other than pi? To answer this question, imagine that as you move around in space the shapes of objects appear to distort. This is what happens in curved space. If you draw a circle around yourself and then start walking around it to pace out the circumference, it will look to you like you are walking along a constantly changing ellipse.

CurvedLand illustrates this distortion as it would appear in a two-dimensional curved space. The structure is similar to a mapping program. You can place objects of different shapes in different places in the world and then move around the space to see what they look like from different perspectives.

The OER shares resources from Sussex University's Post-Punk Britain module. Students on the module work together with Technology Enhanced Learning at Sussex to produce their own OERs. We take the punk rock ethic (Do It Yourself, Do It Together, Keep It Simple, Make it Fast) challenge the role and place of history today and to break down the barriers between material and digital histories.
