Students will learn about the different types of bridges and how they work. The lesson also includes a maker component where the students build a bridge.
Children in kindergarten through fifth grade and their families are invited to learn more about the field of engineering in this hour-long special program. Family Night: Engineering introduces children to cool careers within the field of engineering that range from building roller coasters to designing artificial heart pumps for children who need them. Children will also get a chance to participate in hands-on engineering activities during the program!

In this activity, students will use cookies to simulate the distribution of our nonrenewable resources (energy). Then, they will discuss how the world's growing population affects the fairness and effectiveness of this distribution of these resources and how engineers work to develop technologies to support the population.
Students will construct CD hovercraft and apply Newton's laws of motion to make them work. They will also investigate how hovercraft reduce friction; learn how the technology is used in training astronauts for space missions; and design their own hovercraft competitions.
Students will learn the basics of 3D modeling utilizing SketchUp Pro. Students first begin by observing the most unique building structures in the world. Then learn new skills and techniques through hands-on tutorials to learn how to create 3D models in SketchUp. Once armed with the basics, students will be tasked with creating a 3D replica of a building of their choice or one from their imagination.
This lesson goes along with a unit in which students will be studying specific countries. Students will identify an area of need in their country and create a solar device to help power a solution to that need.
