The Area Context Model template provides a visio tool for developing a graphical representation for a an organizational / project scope enabled using technology. The template uses stick-people, rectangles, and circles to help organize information. Below are instructions for how to prepare a context diagram. This tool is useful for students who are in the introduction to information systems analysis and design, as well as for departments or teams engaged in project / departmental planning.

Students in an introductory Management Information Systems (MIS) course often ask what a career in MIS looks like. Lacking a clear vision, they make their own assumptions. Often they assume the career involves programming with little human interaction. That MIS is a technical field could not be further from the truth. MIS job descriptions typically require candidates to be able to collaborate, communicate, analyze needs and gather requirements. They also list the need for excellent written and communication skills. In other words, MIS workers are constantly interacting with other people both inside and outside the organization. They are coming up with creative solutions to business problems.

This course is designed to help students get a feel for what a career in MIS would be like. Our students report that they learn more about information systems from their internships than from their IS courses. Consequently, we designed a course that looks very much like an internship—an introduction to the field followed by a substantial project.

This module defines basic concepts related to the ethics of data use, compares the ethics of using clinical and research data, and reviews key ethical guidelines and regulations. The module explains why U.S. regulations are relevant for data managers outside the U.S. The module outlines how key ethics concepts affect data retention, sharing, security, ownership, and analysis as well as publication of research results.

This course on "Future Internet Opportunities" consists of 10 modules, which are related to the subject from technical, social and business perspectives.

Each module is available at introductory, basic and advanced levels.

The material is developed as part of an Erasmus+ Strategic Partnership, and available for everyone to use, exploit and modify. The materials consist of a wide variety of materials: From Powerpoint slides, to interactive materials with videos and quizzes, assignments, and peer learning activities.

Students need to understand systems and the systems concept, and they need to understand the role of ICT in enabling systems. Students will learn the characteristics of good systems (e.g., intuitive, likable, error-resistant, fast, flexible, and the like). Knowing the characteristics of good systems will permit students to demand well designed systems and to suggest how existing systems should be changed. Students need to understand the affordances, directions, and limits of hardware, software, and networks in both personal and organizational dimensions. They also need to appreciate that, as technical capabilities change and new ones arise, more opportunities to apply ICT for efficiency, effectiveness, and innovation are afforded. They need to understand the process for developing and implementing new or improved systems and the activities of IS professionals in this process.

This unit defines information systems and describes how they are used. It discusses how an information system is designed, developed, tested, supported and maintained. Finally, it explains how information systems are used in healthcare settings, including the role of specialized information systems.

Managing Change in Healthcare Implementations: an Introduction was created for managers preparing to implement health information and communication technology (HICT) systems in their organizations€hospitals, clinics, or government departments. Geographic data and technologies are embedded in almost all aspects of our lives. GEOG 160, Mapping Our Changing World, explores what geographic information and data are, what makes them unique, how they are created, and how we use them. You'll explore how geographic technologies like geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing from satellites, and global positioning systems (GPS) work together to provide us with information we rely on. You'll also become an informed consumer of the geographic content in your life.

The course purpose is to provide the substance and skill necessary to make sound business decisions relating to information systems and to work with senior line managers in the resolution of issues and problems in this area. Categories of issues which will be addressed in the course include:

The “Retail Quest” virtual field trip app allows students to learn about systems modeling by observing Point-of-Sale (POS) systems at the Mall of America and applying what they’ve observed to systems models such as use case and activity diagrams.  The app allows students to visit mall locations virtually or physically, whichever they choose. You can use the Retail Quest app in your courses by importing it into your Learning Management System (LMS).   Figure 1.
