Abstract
The goal of the club is for students to explore different areas in the visual arts–including drawing, painting, printmaking, and pottery– and gain knowledge about a variety of materials and skills. By the end of club, students will have expanded their knowledge in art history and have learned about the components, elements, and principles of art. At the same time, the projects planned will allow students to apply what they learn to their own creativity and ideas.

This is Volume 1 of a textbook for a Fine and Performing Arts survey, an introductory course.

This class provides an introduction to modern art and theories of modernism and postmodernism. It focuses on the way artists use the tension between fine art and mass culture to mobilize a critique of both. We will examine objects of visual art, including painting, sculpture, architecture, photography, prints, performance and video. These objects will be viewed in their interaction with advertising, caricature, comics, graffiti, television, fashion, folk art, and "primitive" art.

Test your ability to identify if a line is from Shakespeare or Taylor Swift in this video from the National Theater. Cast members from Great Performances: Romeo and Juliet are presented with quotes and have to decide whether they are from the bard of today or the past! Support materials ask students to extend the game by coming up with their own version using a different songwriter.

Students will be given the opportunity to utilize Micro:bits in the music performance classroom. The provided lesson materials will help instructors program the Micro:bits with a program that will analyze their student's posture while performing.

A collection of eight art lessons (puppets, visual arts, music) that integrate social emotional learning for grades K-2. Written lessons provide step-by-step instructions to be done at home. Lessons were created by Arts Corps teaching artists. Lessons are available in English and in Spanish.

Students will be discussing their personal experience with art including dancing, singing, painting, writing poetry, etc. They will be introduced to a few examples of artistic expression from Deaf individuals and asked to analyze these performances.

Students will learn how to produce their own sounds to add to their video projects. This technique is called Foley Art. There are several excellent videos that can be shown during class or assigned as a flipped assignment. Either way, these videos should draw great discussion during class on how to capture homemade produced sounds. Some of the videos I use come from YouTube and are titled "The Magic of Making Sound," "This Artist Creates Sounds for Movies," "How the Sound Effects in 'A Quiet Place' Were Made," "Foley Artists: How Movie Sound effects are Made," and "The Hunger Games & Frozen Foley Artists Turn the Sound of Junk into Miracles--Art of Sound Ep. 3." Simply do a search for Foley Art. After the discussion, students will then select a movie trailer, convert the trailer into a file format that works with their video editing software. Once the file is uploaded into their software, students will remove/detach the audio and begin brainstorming appropriate sound effects and how these can be made for the video. Students should compile a list of at least 10 sound effects. After all students have their lists, divided the students into groups. I find that it is necessary to have more than one person in order to effectively produce the sounds. Once students are in their groups, combine their lists, and come up with 10 sounds they think they can personally produce. Students will need to brainstorm props that can be used to produce their sounds. Once the sounds have been created, each student will then add, trim, and edit the sounds and add to the movie trailer.

After the last day of editing, the students will come back together with their group and show their video to the class. Students should explain how sounds were created.

This class offers a foundation in the visual art practice and its critical analysis for beginning architecture students. Emphasis is on long-range artistic development and its analogies to architectural thinking and practice. Students will learn to communicate ideas and experiences through various two-dimensional, and three-dimensional, and time-based media, including installations, performance and video. Lectures, visiting artist presentations, field trips, and readings supplement studio practice.

Tamisha Floyd, one of four captains of the Step Team at Bryan Station High School in Lexington, Ky., describes stepping in this video from the Dance Arts Toolkit series. She also describes how her team learns and practices its routines.

Explore how masculinity is portrayed in a modern stylized version of Shakespeare's iconic play in this video from Great Performances: Romeo and Juliet. What does it mean to be a "man?" How is our understanding of masculinity reflected in the interplay of Shakespeare's words and the way in which this production interprets the text? Support materials ask students to analyze the fight scene in Act I of the play and whether Romeo accepts or rejects the ideas about masculinity introduced in that opening scene.

This class will introduce students to a variety of contemporary art practices and ideas. The class will begin with a brief overview of 'visual language' by looking at a variety of artworks and discussing basic concepts revolving around artistic practice. The rest of the class will focus on notions of the real/unreal as explored with various mediums and practices. The class will work in video, sculpture and in public space.

This course is a creative, hands-on exploration of contemporary and historical approaches to live electronics performance and improvisation, including basic analog instrument design, computer synthesis programming, and hardware and software interface design.
