Through funding provided by Georgia’s Race to the Top initiative and in partnership with the Georgia Department of Education, new self-paced common core professional development courses are available for English Mathematics teachers.

The Georgia Department of Education has developed two flexible, ready-to-use courses intended to support Georgia educators in the understanding and effective implementation of the CCGPS.

The courses may be used by individual educators, professional learning communities, or by districts or schools. The time required for the courses may be customized for a variety of applications by expanding the amount of time spent on the activities and in discussion.

Each course contains hands-on activities, related readings and research, recommended topics for discussion, web and video resources, and self-assessments.

The content of the courses was developed under a grant from the U. S. Department of Education. However, the content does not necessarily represent the policy of the U. S. Department of Education, and endorsement by the Federal Government should not be assumed.

This publication is copyrighted, but the California Department of Education has given permission through College of the Canyons for them to be used in the development of OER.

The 9 units (or domains) provide lessons (including images and texts), as well as instructional objectives, core vocabulary, and assessment materials. The domain topics include: Different Lands, Similar Stories; Fables and Stories; The Human Body; Early World Civilizations; Early American Civilizations; Astronomy; Animals & Habitats; Fairy Tales; and History of the Earth.

The Skills Strand teaches the mechanics of reading. Students are taught systematic and explicit phonics instruction as their primary tool for decoding written English. By the end of grade 2, students have learned all of the sound spelling correspondences in the English language and are able to decode written material they encounter. In addition to phonics, students also are taught spelling, grammar, and writing during the Skills Strand. A downloadable story "Kits Hats" with illustrations is provided for instruction.

This is a pre assessment to a lesson on E-Cigarattes. My goal is two fold. Educational Stories of Dictational Rules are sixteen stories and activities in slideshow format. These stories were made for students with learning disabilities. Short vowels, long vowels, the letter ta, double vowels, prepositions, and the letter hamza are some of the explained topics. The slideshows start with a story, state the grammar rule, and end with some exercises. The slideshows are enhanced with audio components.

Exploring Computer Science is a yearlong course developed around a framework of both computer science content and computational practice. Assignments and instruction are contextualized to be socially relevant and meaningful for diverse students. Units utilize a variety of tools/platforms and culminate with final projects around Human-Computer Interaction, Problem Solving, Web Design (HTML, CSS), Programming (Scratch, Edware), Computing & Data Analysis, and Robotics. During this seminar you will be exposed to the last of the figurative language types (hyperbole,  exaggeration, adage and proverb).  This seminar is unique because depending where you research will affect how you perceive them.  Some sites express them as different;  hyperboles vs. exaggerations  and adages vs. proverbs.  On the other hand, some websites view them as one and the same.  A hyperbole is a type of exaggeration and an adage is a type of proverb.  Regardless of how you view them, the most important piece of this seminar is to be able to interpret their meanings when used in texts, songs, movies, life experiences, etc. StandardsCC.1.2.5.F  Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in grade-level text, including interpretation of figurative language.

The Financial Algebra Course engages students with real-world financial applications while maintaining deep mathematical rigor. The 10 units include: Taxes, Checking, Savings, Budgeting, Intro to Investing, Investing Strategies, Types of Credit, Managing Credit, Paying for College and Insurance.

This course will be heavily collaboration and project based. Students will be required to use google drive, docs and sheets on a regular basis. This course has a distinction of Algebra 1/Integrated 1 or higher. This is a good course for 11th and 12th grade students as an alternative to Integrated 3/Algebra 2.

This tenth grade annotated inquiry leads students through an investigation of the French Revolution. Adolescent students are quite concerned with challenging authority and establishing their independence within the world; the concept of revolution brings those two concerns to their most world-altering levels. This inquiry gives students an entry point into thinking like historians about the French Revolution. The question of success invites students into the intellectual space that historians occupy. By investigating the question of the French Revolution’s success, students will need to make decisions about what the problems of the Revolution were, how to give weight to the events of three different periods of the Revolution, and what distance, if any, was between intentions and effects.
