It is our hope that the successful student who completes a class using all or some of this text will have improved skills with application inside the discipline of philosophy, but also with application to work in other disciplines within academia. Our ultimate goal, however, is to help people develop techniques which support curiosity, open-mindedness, and an ability to collaborate successfully with others, across differences of experiences and background. The curriculum is designed around projects that empower learners to apply STEM to creatively problem-solve community issues. The learner for this lesson is an adult in high school preparing to use persuasive techniques for the future. This is an English language arts lesson and the lesson introduces evidence as something that is necessary to support your claims within persuasive writing. Evidence helps demonstrate the relationship between ideas and words within the claim that should be the key ideas within the essay, passage, or to support a claim. Learners will practice using this evidence to support their claim about their topic, then they will find one piece of evidence from an article on that topic.

Learn how to evaluate medical information as a non-medical expert using information literacy principles such as currency, noting research questions and methods and verifying claims with multiple sources.

Geoffrey Kenmuir - Passaic County Community College. This assignment prepares first-year students to perform academic research. Specifically, by working with a complex text such as the US Constitution, they will be required to write summaries (articles), paraphrases (definitions), and create a Works Cited Page that adheres to MLA standards. By developing these fundamental skills they will have an opportunity to self-assess their abilities, and realize which research skills are lacking, and which are strong.
