This syllabus continues to be a work in progress for ERCH 465: Science for the Young Learner. The course is part of the Early Childhood Professional Bloc II. Students take these classes on Mondays and Tuesdays and are in their field placements Wednesdays-Fridays, where they apply the content learned in the courses. Pro Bloc II prepares them for student teaching. Students who take this course are preparing to be certified to teach students in grades K-4. 

Earth Day is a time for raising awareness and appreciation for our environment. Children will learn the importance of their home planet and about the three R's: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.

This manual, written in 1914, includes a very basic introduction to the colloquial Egyptian Arabic spoken in Cairo. The 80-page text focuses mostly on vocabulary and contains 28 different word lists. There is also a brief section on grammar, one on the Arabic alphabet and how it is pronounced in Egypt, and a collection of sample dialogues. Although the book covers the alphabet, most sections rely on transliteration into Latin characters. The filesize of the PDF is 5 MB.

This site is a series of video lectures and interactive exercises for teaching basic mathematics skills to first graders. It has separate addition and subtraction skills reviews numbers up to 10, 20, and 100; a section on telling time and reading clocks as well as course material on measurement and geometry.

Science lessons introduce the concepts of solar energy, reflection, and absorption to elementary students. The issue also includes an overview of the natural resources and energy sources found in the polar regions as well as lessons that allow students to develop the concepts of natural resources, energy sources, and energy efficiency.

This article highlights children's literature about light, heat, and energy sources for use in the elementary classroom.

We are obligated to provide enrichment opportunities and to appropriately challenge and engage these students. How do we find and monitor science enrichment activities for those students simultaneous to providing additional intervention and assistance to students who have yet to master the current concepts?
