The anti-jury impeachment rule, contained in Federal Rule of Evidence 606(b) and state counterparts, is a rule preventing the admission of jury testimony or statements in connection with an inquiry into the validity of the verdict, subject to certain exceptions. Through a series of cases and hypotheticals drawn from actual cases, this chapter gives readers a roadmap for how to address any jury impeachment issue in practice.

Collaborative Workflows for Risk Management in Sharing Cultural Heritage Collections Online
Short Description: Digitizing rare and unique historical documents so they can be shared online is mission-critical work for most cultural heritage institutions, but it can be difficult to complete this work, especially intellectual property rights management, at a scale that matches user demand. The authors of this open educational resource offer guidance for creating scalable, cross-functional workflows using a risk-management approach that increases efficiency and distributes responsibility for rights assessment work more equitably across stakeholders. It includes advice for navigating knowledge gaps, building an engaged team with the right skillsets, reimagining workflows, and rethinking traditional archival processing workflows to build capacity for rights analysis during arrangement and description. Each chapter includes a helpful exercise for implementing this guidance in your own institution.

This Casebook (Revised First Edition, August 2016) is intended to be used …
This Casebook (Revised First Edition, August 2016) is intended to be used in an upper-division course covering the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. Its 14 chapters are substantially the same length, with the exception of Chapter One, the introduction, and Chapters Eleven and Twelve which in combination are the usual length. It is intended for 13 or 14 week semester that meets once or twice per week. Each Chapter contains a “Chapter Outline” at the beginning for ease of reference.
The Casebook is organized with the Speech Clauses as Part One and the Religion Clauses as Part Two. Unlike many other courses, there is no accepted organizational scheme within these broad areas. As the Introduction notes, First Amendment doctrine, especially within freedom of speech, presents a varied and haphazard landscape.
The Casebook follows a scheme that has proven effective in Professor Robson's years of teaching the course to hundreds of students. The selection of cases tends toward the most recent and these tend to be less heavily edited. These recent cases often contain extended discussions of earlier cases that are not included in the Casebook.

There are few areas of the law that are currently more contested …
There are few areas of the law that are currently more contested than gender, sexuality, and reproduction. Indeed, fundamental questions of justice and equality arise when the law regulates the most intimate aspects of personal life. Debates rage in legislatures about abortion, contraception, education about sexual orientation and gender identity, marriage equality, assisted reproductive technologies, and employment discrimination. This casebook explores the history, law, and social movement struggles around key issues of gender, sexuality, and reproduction. We will consider the historical trajectories of these laws, from criminalization to deregulation and beyond. We will think through what the law means by gender identity, sexual orientation, sex, and reproduction--and whether those definitions are satisfying. We will think through the practical effects of different legal approaches and the cultural, medical, and political crosscurrents that shape them. Whatever else one may say about gender, sexuality, and the law, it is fluid, and the readers of this volume will have a significant hand in shaping its future.

This subject explores the legal history of the United States as a gendered system. It examines how women have shaped the meanings of American citizenship through pursuit of political rights such as suffrage, jury duty, and military service, how those political struggles have varied for across race, religion, and class, as well as how the legal system has shaped gender relations for both women and men through regulation of such issues as marriage, divorce, work, reproduction, and the family. The course readings will draw from primary and secondary materials in American history, as well as some court cases. However, the focus of the class is on the broader relationship between law and society, and no technical legal knowledge is required or assumed.

Business Organization and Succession Planning for Oregon Family Farms and Ranches
Short Description: The purpose of this guide is to provide foundational education for farm and ranch families on how to create a basic business succession and estate plan. In working with farm families, we have identified four fundamental goals for the farm succession planning process: (1) preserving family relationships, (2) strengthening the farm business, (3) protecting the owners and operators from business disruptions, and (4) minimizing the complexity and expense of succession and estate plans. With some basic knowledge, you will be educated consumers of legal and financial services, which may save you time and money as you consult with the attorneys, accountants, and other professionals who are key to creating a successful plan. This guide also gives you a starting point as you consider your alternatives and begin family discussions about the roles that each family member or nonfamily member may play in the future of the farm as a business. This book has been specifically created to make it easier for professors …
This book has been specifically created to make it easier for professors to offer a law school course on global corruption. It is also designed as a resource tool for all persons working in the anti-corruption field. The first chapter sets out the general context of global corruption: its nature and extent, and some views on its historical, social, economic, and political dimensions. Each subsequent chapter sets out international standards and requirements with respect to combatting corruption — mainly in the UN Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) and the OECD Bribery of Foreign Officials Convention (OECD Convention). The laws of the United States and the United Kingdom are then set out as examples of how those Convention standards and requirements are met in two influential jurisdictions. Finally, the law of Canada is set out. Thus, a professor from Africa, Australia, New Zealand, or English-speaking countries in Asia and Europe has a nearly complete coursebook. For example, that professor can delete the Canadian sections of this book and insert the law and practices of their home country in their place. While primarily directed to a law school course on global corruption, this book will be of interest to professors teaching courses on corruption from other academic disciplines and lawyers, and other anti-corruption practitioners. Available in PDF and online.

There has been a vigorous, decades-long debate around the governance of digital …
There has been a vigorous, decades-long debate around the governance of digital technology – one conducted variously in the public sphere, in academia, and among regulators and legislators, with a discernible impact on the development and use of consumer-facing technologies. These technologies include the Internet and applications built on top of it; the use of AI and machine learning; and the rise of digital platforms that began as individual apps but then became themselves a more comprehensive, at times totalizing, infrastructure of ubiquitous sensors, data, and user analysis. This course will contextualize today’s technology-driven policy challenges in terms of some of the complex technical, legal, and political arcs of digital governance. Throughout the semester we will trace a broad range of urgent, seemingly novel governance problems back towards their roots for the purpose of charting potential paths forward. We will take a long view on questions of technology policy, looking for the limitations and opportunities confronting both regulators and private-sector decision makers -- and the users of these technologies.
