Colourful World Game (Digital Game)
Only Sharing Permitted
CC BY-NC-ND
Rating
0.0 stars

The Colourful World Game presents the player with problems related to sustainability that he/she must solve by exploring the game's environment, gathering information/following clues, and collecting and using items.

The player is visited by different animals seeking help after experiencing the consequences of unsustainable human behaviours. The player then has to explore different scenarios in order to resolve the situation and return the animals to their habitat.

The player will have 4 levels to play, corresponding to 4 different themes and complexity levels.

Following research activities conducted by the Colourful World consortium, the Game has been designed to facilitate acquisition of Sustainable Development related competences by children.

Estrogen protects against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats by upregulating SERCA2a

This resource is a video abstract of a research paper created by Research Square on behalf of its authors. It provides a synopsis that's easy to understand, and can be used to introduce the topics it covers to students, researchers, and the general public. The video's transcript is also provided in full, with a portion provided below for preview:

"Coronary heart disease is a serious condition, and its prognosis is largely determined by the degree of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (MI/R) injury. MI/R injury occurs when blood returns to cardiac tissues and is partly a function of calcium overload and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress. There is growing evidence that estrogen is protective against MI/R injury and a recent study examined the potential mechanisms of this protective effect in rats and cultured cells. Reducing estrogen levels by removing both ovaries exacerbated MI/R injury and reduced levels of SERCA2a, a critical calcium ion pump, but SERCA2a could be increased to nearly normal levels by estrogen supplementation (17β-estradiol). Both supplemental estrogen and exogenous SERCA2a overexpression decreased signs of ER stress and alleviated myocardial damage. Conversely, reducing SERCA2a expression exacerbated ER stress and myocardial damage, and adding estrogen after that reduction could not protect against the damage or ER stress..."

The rest of the transcript, along with a link to the research itself, is available on the resource itself.

Global Markets, National Politics and the Competitive Advantage of Firms
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted
CC BY-NC-SA
Rating
0.0 stars

This course examines the opportunities and risks firms face in today's global world. The course provides conceptual tools for analyzing how governments and a variety of social and economic institutions influence competition among firms embedded in different national settings. Public policies and institutions that shape competitive outcomes are examined through cases and analytic readings on different companies and industries operating in both developed and emerging markets.  In addition to traditional case/class discussions, this course will include some presentations by various guest speakers. The hope is that greater exposure to/interaction with these real-world practitioners will "bring to life" some of the issues discussed in the readings/cases. Whenever possible, informal dinners and/or coffees will be organized for small groups of students interested in meeting with our guest speakers.
