On August 5, 2022, the Pathways Project facilitated a one-day virtual professional development workshop for world language teachers in the state of Idaho and across the globe.

In this recording, we invite you participate in this hands-on workshop, where you’ll get to practice locating, editing, and creating Open Educational Resources in the Pathways Project. These activities integrate authentic resources and support performance based teaching in interpretive and interpersonal communication.

There is great need to understand individuals' functional language abilities, not only in education but in commerce and public policy discussion. The aim is to quantify language use patterns, proficiency, and dominance in the two languages of bilinguals. The Bilingual Language Profile (BLP) is an instrument for assessing language dominance through self-reports that is concise, quick, and easy to use. The BLP is intended to produce a continuous dominance score and a general bilingual profile taking into account a variety of linguistic variables. The BLP is an open and free assessment tool for researchers, educators, and anyone with an interest in assessing language dominance.

Byki Express is a program for beginning language learners. The program consists of pre-made flashcard lists that the user can both read and listen to. The flashcards include pictures, and users can track which cards theyŐve listened to and learned. New user names can be imported into the program so that different learners can use the same program on the same computer. One can also import lists. There is a possibility of an upgrade (for a fee). Arabic and many other languages are available. PC and Mac compatible.

The CAST exam measures speaking skills and is offered for various languages, Arabic being one of them. The exam can be administered to students at an intermediate and advanced proficiency level who are in the 10-12th grade, students in college, and to professionals. The length of the exam is 30 minutes and it is rated by a CAST assessor or by a teacher/reviewer. The exams are anonymous and results are sent by e-mail automatically after rating.
