Exploration of the connection between personal choices and health across multiple dimensions of wellness. Focus on personalized behavior change strategies to advance health. The purpose of this course is for adults to advance their personal health. People generally have a good sense about what to do to be healthy, but actually doing it consistently is another matter. Because of this challenge, behavior change theory is applied throughout this course to engage students and evoke health-related change. By the end of it, we want students to be healthier than they were at the start and we want them to have an understanding of how to continue advancing their health throughout their lives.

Communicate Boundaries and Practice Consent: Setting and respecting boundaries of all types – physical, digital, emotional – are central to a healthy relationship. Practicing affirmative consent is one form of establishing boundaries that requires being a respectful “asker” and “receiver.”

Help a friend in an unhealthy relationship: We all play a critical role in supporting our friends to be in healthy relationships. To effectively help our friends, we need to recognize when they are experiencing or engaging in unhealthy behaviors. We then need to have the courage to have the conversation and the knowledge of how to safely intervene as a bystander.

Know the Signs, Spot the Signs: Understand the 10 Signs of a Healthy and Unhealthy Relationship and be able to recognize them in your life and in the relationships around you.

Navigate endings: Whether in a defined relationship, situationship, hook-up, or “a thing” — navigating endings can be difficult, and handling rejection is always tough. Understanding when and how to end a relationship requires thoughtful decision-making under stressful circumstances, even more so when the relationship might be dangerous and there is a need for safety planning.

Practice Healthy Relationship Behaviors: Everyone deserves to be in healthy relationships. This means having the knowledge and skills to: (1) live the 10 Signs of a Healthy Relationship, (2) set expectations for what we deserve in a relationship, and (3) build a healthy relationship with ourselves.

An organization’s culture includes the assumptions, symbols, organizational beliefs, routines, and shared language that influence how people behave and make sense of their experiences within the organization. The culture of an organization is linked to all facets of the people, processes, and technology that make up a functioning organization. The organizational knowledge base serves as a foundational resource for the entire training strategy as it allows the organization to be adaptable, responsive, and in alignment with the core values and mission. Knowledge creation enables the organization to refine and develop new content as well as find better, more effective ways to do tasks. Knowledge sharing refers to the social interactions between key stakeholders that allow for the transactional and transformation exchange of organizational experiences, implicit and explicit knowledge, thoughts, and suggestions. Knowledge storage enhances organizational memory and promotes access to and use of information for decision making. Learning and finding appropriate ways to use knowledge within our organizational roles for different activities and problem-solving situations is one of the primary goals of training and development areas. How we choose to train and develop team members will be heavily influenced by the organizational culture. Consider the following example.

This course introduces you to the conceptual issues and practical implications of interpersonal communication. The course is designed to provide a holistic and self-contained, although not comprehensive, introduction to the study and practice of communication within interpersonal encounters. In addition, this course focuses specifically on understanding and improving how we communicate in personal relationships including familial, friendship, work and romantic contexts. Research shows, however, that this is not necessarily true and that, in reality, society aims Cupid's arrow more than we like to think. In this exercise we explore the concepts of homogamy, routine activities, social networks, and mere exposure by examining how similar respondents are to their partners on a variety of social characteristics and how they met and became involved with their partners.

Friendship and love, and more broadly, the relationships that people cultivate in their lives, are some of the most valuable treasures a person can own. This module explores ways in which we try to understand how friendships form, what attracts one person to another, and how love develops. It also explores how the Internet influences how we meet people and develop deep relationships. Finally, this module will examine social support and how this can help many through the hardest times and help make the best times even better.

In this activity students will respond to discussion questions about dating and dating experiences. Discussion questions will not only cover student’s experiences, but also their opinions about the best places to go on dates in their city.

In this lesson students will see the different types of evidence scientists use to understand evolutionary relationships among organisms. They will first practice by using shared physical characteristics to predict relationships among members of the cat family and then use this approach to predict primate relationships. They will compare their predictions to evidence provided by analyzing amino acid sequences and build a phylogenetic tree based on these sequences. Finally, they will look at the tree in the context of time in order to see divergence times.

English Description:
In Grades 6 and 7, students worked with data involving a single variable.  Module 6 introduces students to bivariate data.  Students are introduced to a function as a rule that assigns exactly one value to each input.  In this module, students use their understanding of functions to model the possible relationships of bivariate data.  This module is important in setting a foundation for students’ work in algebra in Grade 9.

Most research in the realm of relationships has examined that which can go wrong in relationships (e.g., conflict, infidelity, intimate partner violence). I summarize much of what has been examined about what goes right in a relationship and call these positive relationship deposits. Some research indicates that relationships need five positive interactions for every negative interaction. Active-constructive responding, gratitude, forgiveness, and time spent together are some sources of positive deposits in one’s relational bank account. These kinds of deposits can reduce the negative effects of conflict on marriage and strengthen relationships.

There continues to be a lack of health sex education that is queer and trans inclusive. Many of us are not exposed to our resources until later in life yet must learn everything regarding heterosexual sex practices and resources. This feels extremely homophobic and transphobic given the health induced epidemic we as a community experienced 40 years ago during the HIV/AIDS crisis. Now, in the midst of another global pandemic, reminiscent of survival’s guilt and potential recollections of the past and feelings of “we’ve been here before," we must educate and provide adequate resources around health education. In this short I engage in a reflective platíca where I revisit the first date with my partner where I learn about his status of being HIV+. The aim is to understand how we can move towards destigmatizing sex in our communities that are impacted by HIV and provide current resources, practices, and ultimately share how I am positively in love.

Using examples from anthropology and sociology alongside classical and contemporary social theory, this course explores the nature of dominant and subordinate relationships, types of legitimate authority, and practices of resistance.
