In this unit, students will read The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian while meeting the learning targets of theme, character development, conflict, and use of literary devices. They will apply their knowledge by creating several artifacts to represent their learning.

This lesson was created by Renste Moeller as part of the Nebraska ESUCC Special Project Digital Age Skills.

After reading “The Most Dangerous Game” students will comb through the text to pull out the best examples of imagery from the story. They will work together in groups of three to collect five examples (per person) of imagery. Students must be able to see each other’s examples, so they don’t repeat them, but also help each other identify which imagery is being documented.

In this unit students will …
Define, identify, analyze, and effectively use four persuasive techniques.
Define, identify, analyze, and effectively use persuasive rhetoric.
Effectively use the writing process to create a persuasive essay and persuade the reader of their position on an established topic.
Extend their knowledge of persuasive techniques and rhetoric to create a real-world multimedia product using or teaching persuasion.

This English Language Arts lesson focuses on the understanding of literary devices as related to poetry with poems found via poetryfoundation.org.Students will analyze tone and mood by rephrasing lines of poetry to match the author's intent.Students will explore the poet's message and defend their ideas in paragraph form.This assignment addresses Nebraska state standards: NE.LA 10.1.6.A NE.LA 10.1.6.C  NE.LA 10.1.6.K  NE.LA 10.2.2.E This lesson will take about 40-50 minutes.

OverviewThis remote hyperdoc activity was created by Katlyn Powers on July 26, 2020. The attached hyperdoc & lesson plan is designed for high school ELA students. Students will analyze and evaluate the elements of Smith's poem, build background knowledge to clarify and deepen understanding of metaphors, and use relevant evidence from a variety of sources to assist in analysis and reflection of Smith's poem.
