Academic Interactions 140 is an intermediate course in academic oral communication based on the 9th UN Sustainable Development Goal, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.  This course prepares individuals to comprehend and produce oral English for a variety of academic encounters. Students identify and explain content and communication strategies from lectures, academic discussions, and other academic interactions. Feedback on content, pronunciation and pragmatics is a fundamental component of the course, and opportunity is given for speaking practice in a variety of genres. The final capstone project for the course requires students to prepare and deliver a 3- to 5- minute group presentation with one or two classmates about your engagement with an assigned challenge.

This is an advanced ESL lesson that is designed to introduce vocabulary about conspiracy theories. This lesson plan on conspiracy theories promotes fluency in speaking as it includes controlled and free tasks. Also please keep in mind the conversational nature of this topic. I strongly advise you to review this lesson on conspiracy theories before teaching it. This course is for advanced students who wish to build confidence and skills in spoken English. It focuses on the appropriate oral presentation of material in a variety of professional contexts: group discussions, classroom explanations and interactions, and theses/research proposals. It is valuable for those who intend to teach or lecture in English and includes language laboratory assignments. The goal of the workshop is to develop effective speaking and listening skills for academic and professional contexts.

This workshop is designed to help you write clearly, accurately and effectively in both an academic and a professional environment. In class, we analyze various forms of writing and address problems common to advanced speakers of English. We will often read one another's work.

American English Sounds is a web resource that allows English as a Second Language (ESL) students to practice perceiving and producing the sounds of American English in order to improve their pronunciation.

In this activity, students will be practicing the home vocabulary with a special focus on how they would use the verbs, استطيع، اعود. They will be having a small discussion with each other asking and answering questions.Can-Do Statements:I recognize most of the “Home” vocabulary to describe my home.I can use both verbs اسْتَطَاعَ، عَادَ conjugated with subject pronouns.I can talk about my favorite spot at my home. 

In this activity, students will be practicing how to talk about themselves after reviewing the possessive pronouns, and then they will read a character card and share information about them.Can-Do Statements:I can talk about myself with a friend/classmate.I can ask and answer questions about work and my favorite activities.I can share my hobby/work/where I live with someone.

In this activity, students will practice Arabic numbers from 1 to 50. they will be able to accurately pronounce them, as well as perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) using Arabic numbers.Can-Do Statements:I can recognize and identify Arabic numbers from 1 to 50.I can accurately pronounce Arabic numbers from 1 to 50.I can perform basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) using Arabic numbers.

In this activity, students will practice talking and asking questions with a partner about different middle eastern places. students will also practice asking for directions.Can-Do Statements:I can talk about different places with a friend/classmate.I can ask about different places with someone.I can ask for directions when I need to go somewhere.

In this activity, students will practice talking about their family members, their ages, and what they do. they will also ask questions about family, and talk about their favorite place at home.Can-Do Statements:I can talk about the number of family members and their ages.I can ask others about their family members.I can talk about my favorite place at home and my family's.I can talk about what each of my family members does/work.

In this activity, students will practice the names of the jobs in Arabic, they will practice writing a full sentence describing what a character work. they will also talk about what they want to be in the future, and ask people about their jobs.Can-Do Statements:I can recognize most of the jobs in Arabic.I can say/write a full sentence in Arabic saying what I or someone works.I can talk about what I want to be in the future.I can ask someone about his/her job.

In this activity, students will practice talking about the days of the week, they will also discuss their daily and monthly schedules, and ask others how they spend their weekends.Can-Do Statements:I can talk about my daily schedule.I can recognize the days of the week.I can ask someone “What day is today?”I can ask someone about his/her weekend.

In this activity, students will practice talking about time and movies. They will learn how to read the clock in Arabic, recommend a movie based on someone's preferences, and understand schedules.Can-Do Statements:I can understand the time when announced or shown to me.I can identify movies with the times they take place on a schedule.I can recommend a movie for someone according to his/her preference.

This activity will have different and fun instructions. Students will write, pronounce, and memorize the opposites in Arabic.Can-Do Statements:I can find a picture that describes opposites.I can recognize opposites in Arabic when presented to me.I can write some opposites in Arabic.

In this activity, students will practice kitchen-related vocabulary, and the food preparation steps, and then discuss their preference for places they like to eat at.Can-Do Statements:I can describe the food preparation steps.I can look at pictures in the kitchen vocabulary and identify them.I can talk about where I like to eat the most.

In this activity: Students will be playing the role of a travel agent and a traveler to practice traveling vocabulary. they will ask and answer questions about traveling and hotels, and make a decision based on the given information.Can-Do Statements:Ask questions about hotels and traveling.Make a decision based on the given information.Answer questions about what I like and dislike when traveling.

In this Activity, students will practice asking and answering interview questions. They will also practice using vocabulary surrounding careers and the workplace and speaking about hypothetical situations.Can-Do Statements:I can discuss my career and discuss if I like it or not.I can answer interview questions and speak about my answer.I can talk about my strength and weakness.
