In this card game students play in pairs to practice recognizing the biggest number.

Students will practice counting and identifying less than, greater than, and equal to. This is a supplemental practice activity to use in conjunction with a mathematics curriculum, not the total lesson itself. The game can be played with a teacher as an intervention, between partners during whole group, as a center activity, or sent home to be played with parents/family members. Game board, crocodile mouth pieces and a letter to be used if sent home are attached.

After students observed, analyzed, and classified objects by shape into pre-determined categories in Module 2, they now compare and analyze length, weight, volume, and, finally, number in Module 3. The module supports students’ understanding of amounts and their developing number sense. The module culminates in a three-day exploration, one day devoted to each attribute: length, weight, and volume.

The intent of clarifying statements is to provide additional guidance for educators to communicate the intent of the standard to support the future development of curricular resources and assessments aligned to the 2021 math standards.  Clarifying statements can be in the form of succinct sentences or paragraphs that attend to one of four types of clarifications: (1) Student Experiences; (2) Examples; (3) Boundaries; and (4) Connection to Math Practices.

The Playful Learning Challenge's Pre-K and Kindergarten Math Activities Kit contains a series of 10 research-based early math activities centered around play, that can be used with simple materials in children's classrooms or homes.

Learning the pairs that make ten is a foundational skill for all future learning in number operations. This lesson has four activities that increase in difficulty for student to practice making ten. This is intended to supplement the math curriculum and give extra practice, intervention, center activities, or practice at home. An activity page with a ten frame that can be filled with counters is attached.

The purpose of this task is for students to explain how they know one quantity is greater or less than another quantity. Students will easily be able to identify which number is greater or less. However, explaining their reasoning will help them solidify their number sense skills.
