Mikulas Gaussman: a citizen digitally resourced for the future?

step 1: create some stuff

Assuming you have a digital camera/phone with camera, create and photograph a visual representation of the following paragraph.

As a planet we are generating more and more stuff… good stuff, bad stuff, more stuff: tangible stuff and digital stuff. With digital tools and social media we are able to generate and share huge numbers of files, articles, resources (Cha et al. 2007). There is so much stuff. This is facilitated and exacerbated by social media and initiatives to apply technologies in classroom situations (see for example, Hague and Payton, 2010).

step 2: share

Share your digital creation with others

step 3: reflection

What do you notice in doing this type of creation activity?

Does this have implications in terms of:

  1. what kinds of digital activity/practices does a person engage in by doing such activity?
  2. what kinds of thinking processes does a person engage in by doing such an activity?
  3. who is the rightful owner of a work?
  4. how sustainable is continued creation? Is it the best way forward for a digital community?
