Tiered Task: School Schedule Comparison (Spanish)

This tiered task involves interpretive reading of an authentic school schedule and presentational writing to compare the schedule to students' own schedules. This task is tiered by complexity of product (how students show what they know).


Step 1 (Optional)

Students complete their own schedule chart as a point of comparison.

Step 2 – Interpretive Reading

Students read and interpret an authentic schedule. The teacher can choose which schedule to use, or the individual students can be given the choice.

Step 3 – Presentational Writing – Tiered Task

Students compare their own schedule to the schedule they have read. Each tier is working with the same questions and information. The tiering comes in the complexity of the writing.

Suggested Follow-Up Activities

  • Students work with different schedules and then compare the results.

  • Speaking activity – students ask each other questions about the schedules.

  • Students design their ideal schedule.

  •  Students give a “tour” of their schedules. (Walk around school or use a map to describe schedule. En la primera hora, tengo la clase de español con la Señora Sherrow…)
