About me

Professor Mats Målqvist has a diverse background, acquiring a Master’s degree in Social Science before going into medical studies. After completing his training to become a medical doctor he begun his doctoral studies within the field of global child health, being a core member of the NeoKIP research team in Vietnam. After dissertation in 2010 he continued at Uppsala University as a post-doc, exploring inequity in maternal and child health in Vietnam and doing his residency in Pediatrics. He became Professor in Global Health in May 2018.
From September 2013 to May 2016 Prof Målqvist lived and worked in Swaziland. As the Executive Director he set up and developed a local community-based organization working with peer support for improved maternal and child health, Siphilile Maternal and Child Health.
Currently Mats Målqvist is a lecturer and researcher at IMCH (International Maternal and Child Health), Department of Women’s and Children’s Health at Uppsala University. His research focuses on implementation of maternal, newborn and child health interventions, with projects in Nepal, Tanzania and Sweden.
