Creating 3-D Models using Sketch-Up



Objective

The project objective is to have students make a realistic 3-D model that is to scale.

Mission: Your objective is to create a 3-D model of a building of your choice or imagination. The building must be to scale relative to an average-sized person. You make recreate a dwelling, barn or famous building OR create your dream home. Your building must be to scale and should be finished (windows, roof, shutters, steps, furniture, etc.). The outside of your building should include some surrounding features (e.g. bushes, trees, sidewalks, street, shed, etc.). Your final project should incorporate the elements listed on the rubric and be as detailed as possible. Be creative!

Introduction to Sketch-Up

The first step is to learn a bit about 3-D design and Sketch-Up. Using the attached 1-page webquest, familiarize yourself with Sketch-Up and the basics of designing in 3-D on the computer.

Project Proposal & Management


Project Proposal & Timeline

After reviewing the project objective, students should complete the attached project proposal worksheet. Students will need to break down their project into at least 3 main steps. For each step they need to determine their objective, how they will show they have mastered this objective, resources needed, teacher assistance required, and a time frame for completion.

Project Evaluation

Once project is completed, students should present their project. The projects will be graded based upon the attached rubric.
