The matrix organizes data into a grid form divided into rows and columns and placed inside brackets. The significant advantage allows for multiple variables, representing any number of transformations for broad data manipulation and solving systems of equations. Matrices is especially useful in three-dimensional geometry especially for rendering graphics and applying illumination.  Matrices can be applied in scalars or vectors.
