Grades 9-12

Story

Sarah wore a green hat when she went to the park. Her black hair waved beautifully in the breeze. She was well known in the park for her kind gaze and friendly demeanor.

The bolded words are, in order of appearance: adjective, noun, adjective, verb, adverb, noun, noun.

Imagine the bolded words as the blanks the students need to fill. For example: Sarah wore a _____ (adjective) hat when she went to the _____ (noun). Her _____ (adjective) hair _____ (verb) _____ (adverb) in the breeze. She was well known in the park for her kind _____ (noun) and friendly ____ (noun).


Purpose

The purpose of this activity is to allow the students to express themselves in a fun and creative way while they unconsciously apply vocabulary words they know. This activity is a way for the teacher to assess the student's knowledge of the parts of speech in a less tedious and time consuming way.
