Retelling Events

I use details and a series of all major events to summarize my reading. I include some important relationships between the events in the story

I include some details and most major events.

I include at least one major event, but I focus on one detail I like best or I tell the story out of order.

I do not retell the story completely, or I tell the story out of order.

Stating Main Idea

I clearly state the main idea.

I state the main idea correctly.

I state part of the main idea correctly.

I do not state the main idea correctly.

Making Predictions

My prediction is reasonable. I offer details to make connections between the story and my prediction.

My prediction is pretty close to what actually happened. I offer some details to make connections.

My prediction is inconsistent with what happened. I offer few or no details to make connections.

I do not make a prediction based on the story.

Describing Characters and Setting

I describe the characters and setting. I give specific details to create a complete picture.

I describe the characters and setting. I give some details.

I describe the characters or setting incorrectly. I give very few details.

I do not describe the characters or setting. I do not give any details.

Stating the Conflict

I correctly state the problem or conflict in detail.

I state the problem or conflict correctly but without much detail.

I state the problem or conflict incompletely or incorrectly.

I do not state the problem or conflict.
