About this course

This course is designed as an introduction to the High School 21+ program. Successful completion of this course demonstrates English competency. In this class, students will evaluate their employment history, life experiences, and prior education in order to identify and fulfill high school competencies through a number of avenues. These may include jobs they have held, hobbies or volunteer work they have pursued, extracurricular courses of study (such as MOOCs), or courses to be taken through the HS21+ program.

Course Outcomes

After completing this course, the student will be able to:

  • Explore and document personal, professional, and educational goals.
  • Identify HS21+ graduation requirements needed and create a plan to fulfill them through competency-based assessments aligned with the College and Career Readiness Standards Group E.
  • Utilize the writing process to write informational/explanatory paragraphs and essays.
  • Use computer skills/programs, such as word processing, email, and learning management systems, for academic purposes.
  • Apply information literacy to increase background knowledge and access new information.
  • Compile evidence through a reflective portfolio assessment process, which documents academic growth in, increased proficiency in, and knowledge of content area skills.
