8th Grade Core Math Review

Goal

Students will be able to apply standards learned this year by creating and solving real world problems with each standard.

Students will apply these problems to create a powerpoint game.

Materials

6-10 computers with Powerpoint and internet access.

resources- textbook, past assignments or tests, internet

paper

Time

2- weeks to create the Powerpoint activity

1- week for students to rotate to play each others games.

Intro

Math Project: Create an interactive math game using power point. The game can be an investigation, treasure map, story, clue game, or a scavenger hunt.  The math questions will be the clues to where you must go next. There must be at least 9 math questions, where at least 4 of them must be word problems. Math questions should have one of each: square root or cube root, solving for a variable of a multi-step equation, rate of change or direct variation, slope, transformation, exponents, scientific notation, similar shapes, and Pythagorean Theorem. The order of the problems does not matter. Correct answers should hyperlink to the next correct place. Wrong answers should lead them elsewhere and have a way to go back.  Add good pictures and backgrounds to every slide that follow the theme in the game. The game must be self-explanatory, because your classmates will play your game without you. You will do this by yourself or in a group of 2-3.

(You may want to assign the groups.)

Monitoring

End of first week: Title slide, story line, and 5 equation clues should be completed.

End of second week: Last 4 problems, wrap up slide (end), pictures, animations, and hyperlinks should be complete as well as the written equations, work and answers.

0 nothing at all

How well did you work together?

5 very well

4 somewhat well

3 ok

2 some problems

1 not at all
