According to a 2016 study, over 60% of U.S. adults get news from a social networking site.  These numbers are even higher if you focus solely on Millennials.  Millennials are people who reached young adulthood in the early 2000’s.  A 2015 report suggests that 88% of Millennials get their news from Facebook.  This seminar will show you how to sort through the hundreds of posts you read each day to determine what is factual information that is worthy of sharing with your friends.StandardsCC.8.5.9-10.D Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text, including vocabulary describing political, social, or economic aspects of history/social scienceCC.8.5.11-12.H Evaluate an author’s premises, claims, and evidence by corroborating or challenging them with other information.

This performance assessment aligns with NGSS Performance Expectation 4.ESS1.1 and is intended to be used as an interim assessment. These assessments can either be used summatively, as an end of learning activity, or formatively, utilizing student responses to identify next instructional steps.

This was a presentation about Oregon's 9 Native Tribes that I created for my 2nd grade students amid distance learning from 2020-2022.This in no way shape or form is a completed resource, and in fact I welcome feedback, comments, and collaboration to make this document better! All of the information I have used within the presentation was gathered through each tribes website provided within the Oregon Blue Book (https://sos.oregon.gov/blue-book/Pages/national-tribes.aspx). As this is a working/living resource, my hope is that I will also have this translated into Spanish (my first language) to be used in Dual language or World Language classrooms!

Trivium offers short, conversational essays and artist biographies and encourages exploration by artistic movements, mediums and themes.

An ironwork cross almost 3m high was the uppermost feature of a magnificent screen in Salisbury Cathedral, designed by G G Scott and made by Francis Skidmore, erected in about 1870. The screen was taken down in 1959 and mostly sold, but the cross survived. Its surface was rusty and corroded, but small traces of original distinctive red paint and gilding remained. Painstakingly the cross was taken apart and each piece cleaned using dry ice, then repainted and gilded. Replacement parts were made using the latest digital technology. The restored cross was reassembled and is now a dazzling highlight of the ironwork galleries. https://www.vam.ac.uk/collections.

Using a digital elevation model, prehistoric drainage and modern drainage in google earth, students will locate abandoned valleys, interpret prehistoric drainage orientations, measure and compare valley and channel widths of "new" sections of the Ohio River with tributary valleys which have been used by both prehistoric and modern rivers.

To complete this assigment, students observe terrestrial and Martian fluvial systems in Google Earth imagery and related high-resolution panoramas (GigaPans). The related questions ask students to observe river systems, describe the processes of erosion and deposition present, and interpret the underlying geologic history based on current features.

This simulation allows students to explore the change in sea surface pH levels with increasing CO2 levels.

In this classroom activity, students access sea surface temperature and wind speed data from a NASA site, plot and compare data, draw conclusions about surface current and sea surface temperature, and link their gained understanding to concerns about global climate change.

This lesson explores El NiÃo by looking at sea surface temperature, sea surface height, and wind vectors in order to seek out any correlations there may be among these three variables using the My NASA Data Live Access Server. The lesson guides the students through data representing the strong El NiÃo from 1997 to 1998. In this way, students will model the methods of researchers who bring their expertise to study integrated science questions.

This textbook outlines the major processes and features of the world's oceans. Content starts with a review of important fundamentals of the natural and physical science related to oceanography. Following chapters focus on Earth history and evolution of life through time.

This video introduces phytoplankton - the base of the marine food web, the source of half of the oxygen on Earth, and an important remover of CO2 from the atmosphere. The video also explains how satellites are used to monitor phytoplankton and how warming waters and acidification negatively affect phytoplankton.

This unit allows students to investigate past changes in Earth's climate. Students first explore relationships in climate data such as temperature, solar radiation, carbon dioxide, and biodiversity. They then investigate solar radiation in more depth to learn about changes over time such as seasonal shifts. Students then learn about mechanisms for exploring past changes in Earth's climate such as ice cores, tree rings, fossil records, etc. Finally, students tie all these together by considering the feedbacks throughout the Earth system and reviewing an article on a past mass extinction event.

A condemnation of Daniel O'Connell's agitation of Irish immigrants in the United States against slavery. The artist, certainly E.W. Clay, presents a loaded contrast between turbulent conditions in Ireland and the idyllic, relative prosperity of the immigrant's lot in America. It is the period of the Irish campaign for repeal of the oppressive Legislative Union. On the left repeal movement leader O'Connell stands on the shore of Ireland holding an "Agitation" club and speaking through an "Abolition" horn. He says, "Over the broad Atlantic I pour forth my voice saying come out of such a land you Irishmen or if you remain and dare continue to countenance the system of slavery that is supported there, we will recognize you as Irishmen no longer!" A British grenadier with rifle in hand orders O'Connell to "Clear the way there!" A policeman holding a baton with a crown on its tip warns, "Come, come stop that noise and move off! do you hear!" Behind him is a tragic but common rural scene: a farmer and his family despair as their cottage burns; another farmer lies dead on the ground behind them. At right, across the ocean, is an American farmer and his family. The farmer arrives home from the field, a scythe over his shoulder. He is accompanied by his son, and a black dog follows at his heels. In the distance a black woman and her child lead cows along a road. The American farmer answers O'Connell: It is a mighty far voice you have Mr. O'Connell--I love Ireland as well as you do, but this is my adopted Country and the birthplace of my Children. By industry and economy I am become prosperous--my Children are receiving the benefit of a good education, and the highest situations in the State are open to them. Here we can express our opinion's freely without the fear of bayonets or policemen. I have sworn to defend its laws and the interests of its union and will do so with the last drop of my blood. I will never forsake it! The farmer's wife sits at her spinning wheel before their cottage, her three children about her. She says with a broad Gaelic accent, "Ah Patrick "acushla" don't be hard on Mr. O'Connell--sure if he were druve out of Ould Ireland woundn't we give him a a "cead mille failthe" here!" Her son, just arriving, exclaims, "See here mother what a beautiful medal I've got for being head of my Class." Octavia Butler was a pioneering writer of science fiction. As one of the first African American and female science fiction writers, Butler wrote novels that concerned themes of injustice towards African Americans, global warming, and women's rights.

John Steinbeck’s novella Of Mice and Men tells the tragic story of George Milton and Lennie Small, two migrant ranch workers in Salinas, California. Published in 1937 and set during the Great Depression of the 1930s, Of Mice and Men explores the themes of loneliness and isolation.
