Boeri notes that the demonstrators demanded the deed to a vacant lot in order to develop affordable housing themselves.

David Boeri reports that William Celester (Deputy Superintendent, Boston Police Department) has been accused of sexual assault by a female employee of the Police Department. Boeri reviews the allegations. He notes that neither the department or Celester will comment on the ongoing investigation. Boeri interviews Rafe Kelly (St. John's Missionary Baptist Church). Kelly talks about the case from the victim's point of view. Boeri's report includes footage and photographs of Celester.

Deborah Wang reports that minority workers are underrepresented in the advertising industry. Wang interviews Bink Garrison (Ingalls, Quinn and Johnson) about the lack of minority workers in the industry. Wang's report includes footage of workers in the offices of Ingalls, Quinn and Johnson (advertising firm). Wang reports that Ingalls, Quinn and Johnson is participating in industry efforts to attract students into the industry. Wang notes that the Ad Club at English High School teaches students about advertising. Wang reports that Ad Club students wrote and acted in a public service announcement last year. Wang's report includes footage of the public service announcement produced by the Ad Club. Wang's report also features footage of Pam Piligian (Ingalls, Quinn and Johnson) working with students in the Ad Club. Piligian and Michelle Wilcox (11th grade student) talk about the Ad Club. Alexandra Marks reports on the challenges faced by minority businesses in Boston. She notes that Jet-A-Way is multi-million dollar company that recycles trash, industrial waste, and construction debris. Marks interviews Jesse Jeter (marketing director, Jet-A-Way) and company founders Ed Jeter and Darlene Jeter about the challenges they have faced as a minority business. Jesse Jeter says that racism is still a problem. Ed Jeter says that the business benefited minority quotas in the early years. Marks reports that the NAACP Leadership Development Training Conference was recently held in Boston. Marks's report includes footage from a luncheon held during the conference. Marks interviews William Singleton (president, Quest Publishing Company) about his experiences as an African American entrepreneur. Marks notes that minority-owned businesses often have trouble finding financing. Marks' report includes footage of operations at the Jet-A-Way recycling facility. Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz comments on the inability for Black Americans to receive fair treatment in the United States judicial system.

Carmen Fields reports on differing opinions of the African American studies program at Harvard University. Fields interviews Harvard professors Harvey Mansfield and Orlando Patterson. Mansfield says that conservative scholars are excluded from the African American studies program at Harvard. Mansfield adds that the program is too political and not concerned enough with the study of the African American experience. Mansfield calls African American studies an 'advocacy major' which promotes a certain point of view. Patterson notes that many academic departments are too political. He adds that history departments often teach history from only one perspective. Patterson says that African American studies offers an inter-disciplinary approach to the study of one area of life. Patterson discusses his concerns over the lack of African American scholars entering academia. Fields's report is accompanied by footage of the Harvard campus and footage of students in a class taught by Derrick Bell (Professor, Harvard Law School).

Carmen Fields reports on the restoration of the African Meeting House on Beacon Hill. Fields reports that the Meeting House is the oldest African American church in the nation and that it was gutted by fire in 1973. Fields interviews Philip Hart (Board of Directors, African Meeting House) and Ruth Batson (Director, African Meeting House) for the report. Hart talks about the significance of the Meeting House. Batson talks about plans for music, scholarly debate, and religious services at the Meeting House. Fields notes that a series of rededication programs will begin soon. Fields' report is accompanied by footage of construction workers and staff at the Meeting House and by photographs documenting the history of African Americans in Boston.

Hope Kelly reports on a dispute between the tenants and the landlords of a building in Allston. Kelly notes that the tenants have brought suit against the landlords for discriminatory practices. Kelly reports that a fire damaged the building in February. She notes that the landlords have aided white tenants with temporary relocation and have assured them an eventual return to their apartments. Kelly reports that African American tenants have been ignored. Kelly reports that the tenants have been barred from the building altogether. Kelly's report includes footage of a protest outside the apartment building by tenants and city officials. Brian McLoughlin (Boston City Council), Mel King (community activist), Domenic Bozzotto (Hotel Workers Union), and David Scondras (Boston City Council) are among those present. Tenants and city officials condemn the owners of the building and demand the return of tenants to the building. Kelly reviews the status of the lawsuit and gives the names of the owners of the building. She attempts to interview David Spada (owner) when he arrives at the building. Spada refuses to be interviewed.

Angeles Rodrigues, Executive Director for La Alianza Hispana (a Hispanic human services agency in Boston), gives an example of funding problems using the failure of the Massachusetts Welfare Department to adjust monies, despite inflation.

David Boeri reports on the Silver Shield case. Boeri reviews the facts of the case and the allegations against the officers involved. Boeri's interview includes footage from an interview with Richard Armstead (Boston Police Department). Armstead talks about the case. Boeri notes that police officers William Dunn and William Kennefick were cleared of the allegations against them after a third investigation into the case by the Boston Police Department. Boeri's interview includes footage from a press conference with Francis "Mickey" Roache (Commissioner, Boston Police Department), Albert Sweeney (Boston Police Department), Arthur Morgan (Boston Police Department), and Minister Don Muhammad (Roxbury Community leader). Roache says that there is not evidence of a crime having been committed. Boeri reports that he has discovered two more police officers who have information on the case. The report includes footage of Boeri interviewing a man in a darkened room. The man's appearance and voice are altered. The man gives information about the rape at the Silver Shield Club. Boeri reports that the two witnesses have requested anonymity for fear of reprisals. He adds that the witnesses' story casts doubt on the story told by the accused officers. Boeri says that he will not reveal his sources. Boeri's reports is accompanied by footage and photographs of the officers involved in the case and by a photograph of Lucia Kai (murder victim).

Boston teenagers discuss the Darryl Williams shooting. Program focuses on the opinions of teenagers in Boston regarding race relations in middle and high schools, via a group discussion with 34 teenagers led by Barbara Barrow-Murray. Discussion topics include the Darryl Williams shooting at Jamaica Plain High School, the impact of violence on education, and the role of parents in perpetuating poor racial relations. Program includes 20 minutes of viewer calls and footage of the Darryl Williams Rally October 3, 1979, and the East Boston High School Boycott, October 18, 1979 (compliments of WGBH-TV's 10 O'Clock News. Apartheid protesters gather in front of the South African Consulate at 100 Charles River Plaza in Boston. Mel King (political activist), Charles Yancey (Boston City Council) and Willard Johnson (Head, TransAfrica) demand to see Richard Blankstein (honorary consul to South Africa). Police officers bar entry to the building. Johnson announces that the protestors will ask for Blankstein's resignation from his post. He adds that they will ask Blankstein's law firm to sever ties with South Africa. Johnson and the others are eventually allowed to enter the building. Tug Yourgrau does several takes of his reportage for a news story about the protest. Police, protesters and the media wait outside of the building.Themba Vilakazi (member, African National Congress) exits the building to announce the resignation of Blankstein. Johnson, King and Yancey exit the building. Johnson reads a statement of resignation from Blankstein. The statement reads that Blankstein is not a supporter of apartheid. Johnson announces a victory for the protesters. Johnson, King and Yancey walk over to a group of protesters on the street. Charles Stith (Union United Methodist Church) leads the protesters in a chant. Johnson announces the resignation of Blankstein. The crowd cheers.

A panel of students addresses an audience of faculty members, students and other at Tufts University. A student speaks about the university's policy on divestiture from South Africa. The student calls on the Board of Trustees to divest completely from South Africa. Another student talks about the protesters' efforts to contact and negotiate with the university administration and Board of Trustees. A group of students hold a small meeting at a shantytown set up on the Tufts University campus. A large banner reads, 'Divest now.' Protesters talks about their efforts to communicate with the university administration and Board of Trustees on the issue of divestment from South Africa. The protesters accuse Jean Mayer (President, Tufts University) of not cooperating with the students. One protester promises radical action on campus if the university does not divest. The protesters say that the Board of Trustees is ducking the issue. They accuse the Board of ignoring the voices of students and faculty. The tape features shots of the shantytown on the Tufts campus.

David Boeri reports that African American community leaders and city officials have proposed to build the new headquarters of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) in Roxbury. Boeri notes that the MWRA headquarters would be the cornerstone in a project to develop Parcel 18, located near the Ruggles MBTA station. Boeri's report includes footage of a press conference with city officials and African American leaders. Charles Stith (Union United Methodist Church), Bruce Bolling (Boston City Council), Ray Flynn (Mayor of Boston), Harold Hestnes (member of 'The Vault'), and James Kelly (Boston City Council) all speak out in favor of Parcel 18. Boeri reports that the Massachusetts State Legislature is also considering the city of Quincy for the MWRA site. Boeri notes that African American leaders are asking state legislators to show their support for the African American community by choosing Parcel 18. Boeri's report includes footage of Paul Harold (State Senator) speaking to the media. Harold says that Quincy is the right place for the MWRA headquarters. Boeri's report also includes footage of Paul Levy (MWRA) at a press conference. Levy says that the MWRA site does not have to be in Quincy. Boeri reports that city officials and African American leaders are pressuring state legislators to support Parcel 18.

David Sakura recalls life in Japanese detention camps in the United States during World War II. Program celebrates President Carter's bill proclaiming May 4 - May 10 Asian Pacific Heritage Week in honor of the cultural traditions of Asian Americans. Host Barbara Barrow-Murray speaks with Dr. David Sakura (part of Boston's Asian Pacific Heritage Week planning committee and member of the Japanese American Citizen's League) and Tin Yue Wan (a noted Chinese artist) in separate interviews. Topics of discussion with Sakura include the meaning of Asian Pacific Heritage Week, the difficulties in getting such a bill passed, the educational work of the Japanese American Citizens League, and Japanese detention camps in the United States during World War II. Topics with Wan include the five styles of Chinese painting, how his work has been received, and what his life was like in Hong Kong. Program includes a mini "gallery talk" by Wan. Boeri reviews the terms of the program. He notes that many houses in the area are not eligible for the program because their sale prices are too high. Boeri interviews Diana Strother (Roxbury resident), who says that many residents do not make enough money to take advantage of the program. Boeri interviews Leon Wilson (Bank of Boston) about the terms of mortgages under the program. Boeri notes that the units in the Fort Hill condominium complex are too expensive to qualify for the Bank of Boston program. Boeri interviews Alvin Wilkins (Boston resident) and Eve Moss (realtor) about housing prices in the area. Boeri also interviews Bruce Marks (Hotel and Restaurant Workers Union). Marks calls the Bank of Boston program a 'public relations scam' because it does not truly help low-income residents. Boeri's report includes shots of the Fort Hill condominium complex.
