Follow Irish poet Seamus Heaney through his poem, Blackberry-Picking, featured in this video segment from Poetry Breaks. Like many of Heaney's poems, Blackberry-Picking combines the power of memory and nature.
Students will review definitions for adjectives, learn and practice sensory adjectives and imagery, and use adjectives and descriptive phrases in writing a paragraph and/or story.
Beginning ENG I students are introduced to the general concepts of imagery (including symbolism) and theme in short literature in a lesson that features two contemporary pop songs and their lyrics. Serves as a useful attention getting exercise for low-level ENG I students who must become familiar with general literary concepts and terms for the ENG I EOC.
As part of a unit on Medieval Art, students will become familiar with some of the works of Hieronymus Bosch. They will identify symbols and imagery of fear and will be able to relate this to some of their own fears and nightmares.

" In this new course, students will study how images have been used to shape the identity of peoples and cultures. A prototype digital project looking at American and Japanese graphics depicting the opening of Japan to the outside world in the 1850s will be used as a case study to introduce the conceptual and practical issues involved in "visualizing cultures". The major course requirement will be creation and presentation of a project involving visualized cultures."
