This class explores computing that relates to, arises from, or deliberately influences emotion. Topics include the interaction of emotion with cognition and perception, the role of emotion in human-computer interaction, the communication of human emotion via face, voice, physiology, and behavior, construction of computers that can recognize and respond appropriately to human emotional expressions, the development of computers that "have" emotion, and other areas of current research interest. Weekly reading, discussion, and a term project required.
A brief exploration of the potential uses of educational technology - particularly Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) - to aid in teaching autistic children. In particular, this review investigates the particular advantages of computers and other emerging technologies that may be leveraged to overcome common learning obstacles encountered within autistic populations.

In this unit, we’ll examine why this controversy took on such a life of its own and why parents still agonise about the vaccine.

Social Stories to demonstrate appropriate reactions to particular social situations. People with Autism often find it difficult to understand other peoples perspectives, and are unable to engage in meaningful interaction without assistance. Social Stories can also help people with autism to understand a change or help teach routines.
Most of us have a very vague and narrow concept of what autism is, based mainly on such stereotypes as Dustin Hoffman's character in the film Rain Man. In this unit you will discover that there is a wide spectrum of disorders associated with autism, and an equally wide range of approaches to diagnosis and treatment.
