When you start a collaborative lesson, where would you start and why?

Some cohorts will create a lesson after identifying a Common Core State Standards, and others will create a lesson based on a topic or a theme. When you start a collaborative lesson, where would you start and why?
Julia Andrews: "Let's start at the beginning. It's a very good place to start."
The point: You have to start. We started with some texts that were very specific to our content and then from those specific texts, we built backwards until we found a broad reaching text from which we could develop a question that would push us naturally back into our original, specific texts within our individual contents.
