The Branch Alliance for Educator Diversity (BranchED) and ISKME have partnered to offer an eight week Open Educational Resource (OER) train-the-trainer intensive to support teacher educators at Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) at Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) to utilize and develop high quality OER. During the Summer Institute, participants will develop an OER module, a three part webinar series, and an OER workshop to train 12+ teachers. The Summer Institute will provide an introduction to OER; practice with discovery, collaboration, curation, and quality evaluation; exploration in design, authoring, and remixing; development of an OER Training plan; peer review, reflection, and refinement of resources; and advocacy and leadership.

This module provides a overview of the power of teaching with a trauma-informed lens. The content was created by the faculty members at the following institutions: Chicago State University, Olive-Harvey Community College, South Subrurban College and Prairie State College. The module was designed to be added to the child development course or other introdcutory educationals course that are taken by education majors. The module was developed by Dr. Ty Jiles, Chicago State University, Professor Mario Wright Olive Harvey, Dr. Donna Walker, South Suburban Collge and Dr. LaTia Collins, Prairie State College.  The module is designed to enhance the instructional skills and confidence for pre-service teachers and teacher candidates at minority-serving institutions. The module offers a multicultural narrative as it relates to trauma-informed teaching practices and includes the following: 1) Engaging all students in the learning process, 2) Classroom environment, 3) Planning instruction and learning design for all students, 4) Developing as a professional.

This workshop targets full time and part time faculty, in order to teach self-care skills that aim to reduce stress and reduce the potential for burnout.This workshop will teach specific strategies that faculty members can use to increase wellness, maintain well-being, and retain a sense of emotional health.  These strategies can also be used in the classroom to enhance student well-being.  Faculty members who experience emotional rejuvenation can bring a renewed sense of energy into the classroom, in turn providing students with an enhanced educational experience.Participants in this course will read material from websites, view video clips, participate in online discussion boards, and develop a self-care plan.Participants in this workshop will be able to:·         Identify and describe the importance of faculty well-being;·         Describe the link between teacher health and student benefit;·         Describe well-being and various definitions of health;·         Discuss the key elements of well-being from these highly regarded authors on the topic:o   Martin Seligman -  Flourisho   Dan Beuttner - The Blue Zones·         Identify the warning signs of burnout·         Identify strategies for staying fresh on the job·         Understand the concept of nurturing/caring for the various aspects of the educator’s whole person·         Develop a personal care plan to address the seven selves, according to the whole person model Over a five week period, participants will spend 2 hours per week reading materials, participating in online discussions, and completing a self-care/wellness plan.
