A statistics lesson on describing and making claims from data representations, specifically linearly increasing data. Applies ideas of rate-of-change to develop writing a linear equation to fit the data, using the equation to interpolate and extrapolate additional information, and integrating the mathematical interpretation appropriately into a social sciences argument.
In this experiential, arts-integrated unit, students explore the historical significance of religious buildings in order to understand the ways in which architecture reflects cultural belief systems.
This unit provides Common-Core aligned lessons based for Math 3, English 10, and Biology (NGSS Standards). The subjects are linked by a text on climate change, and they hit the standards of argumentation for English, comparing functions in Math 3, and human effects on environment in Biology.

In this three lesson series, students will analyze the effects of the drought in California. Students will analyze rainfall data and graph the annual rainfall for California. Students will understand the water cycle and explain how a drought affects the water cycle. Students will research methods to conserve water and write a persuasive argument.
Within this series of lessons, students will explore these essential questions:
What basic human necessities are needed to thrive in society?

How to move from oppression to resiliency?

Students will examine the extent to which people pass judgment, discriminate and violate human rights in communities of color and to what extent these same communities remain resilient. We will move our instruction from broad to personal perspectives of understanding the conditions in the larger world as well as their own.
