    Overview

    Students will be randomly assigned groups with the following cities: Berlin, Wien, und Zurich. They will be given a budget and need to create an itinerary for a week-long stay.

    Travel / Reisen

    Description 

    Students will be randomly assigned groups with the following cities: Berlin, Wien, und Zurich. They will be given a budget and need to create an itinerary for a week-long stay.

    Practices

    Students create an itinerary for visiting Zurich, Berlin, or Vienna.  Die Studierenden erstellen eine Reiseroute für einen Besuch in Zürich, Berlin oder Wien.

    Perspectives 

    Trips to the world capitals of German-speaking nations are important for the appreciation of the individual nations. Reisen in die Welthauptstädte deutschsprachiger Nationen sind wichtig für die Wertschätzung der einzelnen Nationen.

    Materials Needed

    Warm-Up

    Ask the students travel questions using different tenses (where would you go, how would you travel there, where did you go (this summer?), where will you go (this weekend?)

    Main Activity

    Use a number generator to randomly assign students into groups with the following cities: Berlin, Wien, und Zurich. Give each group a budget for activities around their given city.

    1. Put students into groups.

    5. Have the groups write an itinerary on a shared google PowerPoint (every group will get 1-2 slides).

    6. Each group will share their results at the end.

    Ask the the students for following question(s) to finish the activity:

    • Wohin in Europa seid ihr gereist? (Where have you traveled to in Europe?)
    • Im deutschsprachigen Raum? (In German-speaking countries?)
    • Was sind einige Höhepunkte/Missgeschicke beim Reisen? (What are some highlights/misadventures from traveling?)

    If there is time leftover, ask about what their dream vacation would be. Discuss and comment on it!

    End of Activity

    • Read Can-Do statements once more and have students evaluate their confidence.
      (Use thumbs up/thumbs down or download our student cards.)
    • Encourage students to be honest in their self-evaluation.
    • Pay attention, and try to use feedback for future activities!
