    Project Publication Process

    Project Publication Process

    Overview

It’s time to begin the publication process! Students will learn how to upload their chapters and artifacts to their final self-portrait. As they begin to build their project, they’ll also keep a list of helpful tips for uploading, reviewing, and editing their work.

    Preparation

    • Read the lesson and student content.
    • Anticipate student difficulties and identify the differentiation options you will choose for working with your students.
    • Prepare your own model files to upload to a model self-portrait in a demonstration for your students.

    Platform Topics

    • Over the next few lessons students will be uploading their completed files to begin the publishing process.

    Opening

Review more of your observations about website-creation or portfolio platforms with your classmates.

    • Keep track of any questions you have or things that seem unclear about the instructions now that you are ready to build your own project.

    Open Notebook

How to Import and Upload Files

    • Model how to upload various kinds of files. Once students have a basic sense of how the system works, they will probably progress more quickly by playing around with their own files. ELL: It is sometimes hard to understand when a person is explaining in a language other than one’s own. As you model importing and uploading files, be sure your pace is adequate, and provide ample wait-time to allow students to process the information.
    • Try to answer students’ questions. Take note of questions you are unable to answer in the moment and try to address them in the coming days.

    Work Time

Take some time to explore how to import and upload files to the website-creation or portfolio platform.

    • Follow along as your teacher models how to import and upload various kinds of files to the website-creation or portfolio platform.
    • Make sure your questions are answered through the demonstration. If they have not been, ask the class.

    Project Work

    • Circulate to help troubleshoot as students work. If you find that many students are encountering similar difficulties, stop the class and try to address the issues at hand.

SWD: Students with disabilities may have difficulty becoming efficient with technology tools. Check to ensure students have adequate instruction on how to use the tools as well as time for guided practice.

    • Encourage students to keep a list of “tips and tricks,” as they will undoubtedly make discoveries as they work.

    Work Time

    Begin to build your self-portrait.

    • Import and upload files to the website-creation or portfolio platform.
    • Keep track of any tips or tricks you discover that you can share with your classmates.

    Project Progress

    • Take a few minutes to debrief the process with students, trying to address unresolved issues.
    • Allow students to share with each other what they have learned. It could be that they discover shortcuts or tricks that can help their classmates.
    • Continue to check on students’ Planning Calendars.

    Closing

    • Update your Planning Calendar to reflect your accomplishments of the day.

Then, discuss these questions with your class:

    • What is straightforward about using this platform? What is difficult?
    • What issues are currently unresolved?
    • What did you discover that you think might be helpful to your classmates?

    Project Work

    • Depending on the Internet connection at your school, some students may find it easier to upload some of their files at home.

    Homework

    Keep working on your self-portrait.

    • Continue importing and uploading files to your project.
    • If you are behind, finish creating, editing, and organizing your chapters and your artifacts.
    • Log your progress in your Planning Calendar.
