    Project Revision

    Project Revision

    Overview

Students will spend time finishing the revision of their written chapter and reviewing possible extensions to include in their work—such as creating an image or writing a poem. They’ll share the ways in which their project work has gone well and any concerns they still have.

    Preparation

    • Read the lesson and student content.
    • Anticipate student difficulties and identify the differentiation options you will choose for working with your students.

    Work Time Options

    • You may want to guide students to a particular choice if you know their progress.

    Opening

Look over the Work Time options for this lesson.

    • Option 1 : If you have a clear sense of the revisions you need to make to your written chapter and all you need is time, you may spend the Work Time writing independently.
    • Option 2 : If you and your partner feel that you need a little more input and support from each other to complete your peer edit, you may confer briefly before working on your revision and you may check in about revisions-in-progress.
    • Option 3 : If you are finished or almost finished with your revision, you may begin work on the extension options to enhance your chapter.
    • Choose whichever option best fits your needs. Share your decision with your teacher.

    Revision Work

    • Take this time to hold individual conferences with students you know need the support.
    • SWD: This is a good opportunity to conference with students with disabilities to check on how their revisions are going.
    • ELL: Allow ELLs to work with those who share the same primary language if they wish to do so.

    Work Time

Work on your revision. If you finish before the end of Work Time, move to Option 3.

    Project Progress

    • Use this Quick Write as a quick assessment of your students’ progress, and to see if there are concerns that you need to address with the class as a whole.
    • Have some students share their responses if there is time.

    Closing

    Complete a Quick Write.

    • What are you pleased with about your project so far?
    • What do you still have concerns about?

    Open Notebook

    Project Work

    • Remind students to adjust their Planning Calendars if necessary.

    Homework

    Keep working on your self-portrait.

    • Continue collecting artifacts for the various chapters of your self-portrait, checking off items on your Self-Portrait Checklist as you go.
    • Log your progress in your Planning Calendar.
    • Work on extension options if necessary. If you chose to include an extension option in your written chapter, add work plans for it in your Planning Calendar.
