Overview
Students are reading to learn new information all the time. They should know different strategies to help them along the way. This is a great little lesson to do at the beginning of the school year and then after semester break again. Students should know the tools to help them be successful readers. This can be used for a teacher inservice or for parents who are new to helping thier own kids out during elearning / homework.

Background Knowledge
What do you know about this book/ subject?
After you choose the topic you are reading look through the book. Get on the internet and do some research about the subject. Take a virtual field trip.
Questioning
What do you want know? What are you learning> What did you learn?
Remember to question yourself about the text before, during, and after reading.

Visualization
Take notes, draw, visualize in your head while reading. Use graphic organizers such as a story wheel.

You should be able to list the characters, setting, beginning, middle, and end of a story to summarize.
