    Overview

    Students will use the POWER Library resources to locate images and to complete a worksheet on disasters.

    Lesson Objectives

    Students will be able to:

    • Create a timeline of disasters arranged by year.
    • Research various disasters that took place over the span of several years.
    • Make inferences using text and graphics.
    • Draw conclusions from text and graphics.

    Activity Introduction

    Instructor Notes:

    Students should be divided into two (2) groups.  The first group will locate and print images of disasters from the POWER Library resources.  The second group will research a list of disasters, complete a worksheet on the disasters and create a timeline by matching the year with the disaster.

    This activity is a great activity for students to discuss their findings.

    Assessment: The assessment for this lesson is based on the students ability to complete the Disaster Worksheet.

    Activity Directions:

    • Your instructor will divide your class into two (2) groups.  The first group will complete the activity under the Group 1 heading and the second group will complete the activity under Group 2.

    • Use the POWER Library resources to research the disasters from the Group 2 section of the Disaster Worksheet.  Investigate when the event took place and then create a timeline to show what event happened when and how much time passed between the important events.
