    Traveling Activities

    Overview

    Think about all the fun things you can do, see, and learn about when traveling.  Many Spanish-speaking countries are enriched with culture and history. In this seminar you will be introduced to new verbs that you can do while traveling to a city and discovering new places.

    Imagine you are on a field trip to a new city, what do you want to do?  Some people prefer to visit museums, go see a movie, or even go out to eat to try new foods. Make a list of things you like to do while traveling.

    Discuss your ideas / opinions / understandings.

    Based on what you learned in the Explore and Engage sections of this Seminar, answer the following prompt:

    • What is it like to be a “foreigner”?  In this lesson you learned about different activities to do, do you think different people do different things?  Does it have to do with where you live? Explain your thoughts.

    Evaluate

    Now it is time to self-check how much you have learned about the this topic.  If you do not know as much as you thought, go back to the “Explore” section of this seminar and reread, rewatch, or redo the activities listed.  See your facilitator if you have questions.

    Elaborate

    This is a task or project where you can show what you know.

    You have a new pen pal from San Juan, Puerto Rico.  Write him/her a letter introducing yourself and some of the activities you, your family, and your friends do where you live.  Your letter must have the following:

    - Introduce your name

    - Indicate where you live

    - Describe one of your friends

    - Discuss some of the activities you, your family, or your friends do and where

    - Farewell

    Your letter should be one paragraph and your OWN writing- do NOT use a translator. Submit your letter in a text submission, word document upload, or in a shareable google doc link.

    Complete this wrap-up activity where you reflect on your learning.  

    1. Write a reflection essay answering the following questions:

    • Of the new activities you learned in this seminar, which one is your favorite?  State it in English and in Spanish. How often do you do this activity? State the frequency in Spanish.  Is there one activity you do not do at all? State it in Spanish.
