Classroom Objects: I spy a classroom object!

    Engage

    Introductory warm-up activity.

Imagine you are in a classroom at school.  What do you say? Can you identify those objects?  Do you use pencils, pens, paper, notebook, folders, or books?  Whether taking an online class or attending a class in a building, many of the same classroom objects are needed.  Let's learn how to say them in Spanish!

    Explain

Discuss your ideas / opinions / understandings.

    Directions:

Based on what you learned in the Explore and Engage sections of this Seminar, answer the following prompt:

    • Look around you?  How many classroom objects can you name in Spanish?  List at least three that you say.  Are they common to what other students are seeing?

    Evaluate

Now it is time to self-check how much you have learned about the this topic.  If you do not know as much as you thought, go back to the “Explore” section of this seminar and reread, rewatch, or redo the activities listed.  See your facilitator if you have questions.

    Elaborate

This is a task or project where you can show what you know.

    Directions:

What's in your clase?  Think about a classroom you were in during elementary school or one you were in recently.  Create a drawing of that class.  You must correctly label at least 10 different classroom objects in your class.

Watch your spelling and don't forget the correct article (el, la, los, or las) with it. Submitting Options: Select 1 method of submission based on your creative ability.

    1. Create a handwritten drawing, that is colored, and clearly labeled with 10 different classroom objects.  Scan your drawing and upload the file OR take a picture of your drawing and upload the drawing.  Make sure the labels are clearly visible.

    2. Using paint or any other drawing tool, draw your classroom and label the 10 classroom objects in your drawing.  Save your drawing and upload it.

    3. Take a picture of a classroom and then edit the picture in a software program to label the 10 different classroom objects. Save the picture with labels and upload it.

    4. Copy and paste multiple objects into a word document to make it look like a classroom.  Label the 10 different objects.

*No matter what option you select, the background must be a classroom with classroom objects in it. The labeling must also be done directly on the picture near the object so I can clearly see you can identify that objects. If you have another method of submission you are interesting in using, ask for permission from your teacher first by sending a message.

    Express

Complete this wrap-up activity where you reflect on your learning.

    Directions:

    1. Write a reflection essay answering the following questions:

    • Did you find that there were many cognates (words that look, sound, and mean the same in Spanish and English) when discussing classroom objects?  If so, which ones?  Do you think it will be easier to remember this vocabulary because these are words you use on a daily basis? How will you ensure that you remember them so you understand when your teacher uses them?

    2. Post an Artifact.

    • Include an artifact(s) that contains specific experiences, readings, assignments, or discussions in this course that supports your point.

    • What did you learn by creating this artifact? Be specific.

    • How did this artifact and other course elements help you reach it? Be specific.
