Parts of Speech

Using PowToon, each student will create a part of the review and present it to the class.  Remember your audience is your classmates and teacher.  Make certain to demonstrate your knowledge and creativity.

  1. Select your topic.  

  2. Prepare a graphic organizer to help you create the information.

Parts of Speech:  Noun/Pronoun, Action Verb, Helping Verb, Linking Verb, Preposition, Adjective

  • Definition of the term.

  • Examples of what it is.

  • Examples of what it is not.

  • Tell us where we can find it in a sentence.

  • Tell us the function of the term.

  • Give 3 example sentences showing the term.

Compound or Complex Sentence

  • Definition of the term.

  • Examples of what it is (tricky).

  • Examples of what it is not (tricky).

  • Description of the structure and why to use it.  Include punctuation.

  • How can a student identify this sentence type from another type?

  • Give 3 example sentences showing the term.

VIP (Very Important Point) -- There are many sites for you to obtain information, but not plagiarize.  If you cannot find information, please talk with your teacher.

Create a PowToon

  1. Write a script (outline) of what you want to create.

  2. Education link:  https://www.powtoon.com/edu-home/

  3. Click on Try it FREE.  

  4. Log in with your Google account by clicking on the red button that says Google.  Click Allow, if needed.

  5. Click on the gray box at the bottom that says “or choose one of our popular pre-made templates”.

  6. Choose the first option - Start from Scratch - Use.

  7. Click Continue -- upper right corner.

  8. Add slides.

    1. Minimum of 10 slides, maximum of 12 slides.

  9. Title your Powtoon (top) as your initials and subject.

  10. Save often.  PowToons is not like Google; it does NOT save automatically.

  11. Insert your text, text effects, props, animation, characters, etc.  Then add backgrounds.

  12. Minimum of 8 seconds for each slide.  20 second limit per slide.

  13. Limit props, characters, and animation.  Emphasize your research!  

  14. No narration!  No images from other sources!  Can have background music.

Add Background Music

  1. Click on Sound (right side).

  2. Click on Sound Track.

  3. Click the play button to listen to the options.

    1. Note:  you are limited because of the free version (do not upgrade)

  4. Click Add to add the music to your Powtoon.

  5. Click Apply.

  6. Click Save.

 

Publish Your Powtoon

  1. Click the Export button (at the top).

  2. Upload to YouTube.

  3. Add account -- your student Google account.

  4. Privacy -- Choose Unlisted.

  5. Leave the title as your initials and subject.

  6. Do not add a description or tag.

  7. For the category, choose Education.

  8. Click Next.

  9. Click Next (you only have access to the Standard 480p so no changes can be made).

  10. Click Upload PowToon.

  11. You will receive an email with the youtube link.  Copy the URL.

  12. Go to Google Classroom. Open the Google doc to link assignment.

  13. Type your name on the next open line.

  14. Type your subject in the next column.  Select the text.

  15. Click Control + K.  The link box will open.  

  16. In the Link box, click Control + V to paste the URL that was copied in Instruction 11 above.

  17. Click Apply.
