This course proceeds or should be done concurrently with the “Planning for Technology Integration” course during which the initial planning for e-learning  and technology in the school is completed. During this course we strategise around several key elements of change leadership, such as capacity building and the cultures of learning and evaluation, which will help to sustain the change and continue growing a sense of ownership of the e-learning vision. The course also addresses ongoing implementation issues regarding support and maintenance and facing challenges adaptively.

Why Change Leadership?
When new and innovative approaches are adopted in a school e-learning plan, new technologies may be identified as resources. Both represent change/transformation in the school. Implementing a School Technology Plan requires management of processes as well as people and technology. If process and technology are changing in a school, stakeholders (the people concerned) need to feel ownership of the direction of change if educational transformation is to succeed. Therefore, being a technology leader in the school requires an understanding of the process of change leadership, because ultimately it's all about the people, especially the teachers and learners.

Employers in Saint Lucia and the region continue to lament that employees lack the skills to operate productively and efficiently at the workplace. The local cuisine of a country is one of its unique selling points (USP) which sets it apart from other places and attracts visitors. As a country whose economy depends heavily on tourism, it is imperative that visitors continue to sample the appetizing foods that Saint Lucia has been known to create, both those that they may be familiar with in their home country and those that are unfamiliar. In that regard, a course in Commercial Food Preparation with an emphasis on preparing delicacies using local produce and variation in preparing imported produce will equip hospitality workers with the skills, knowledge and competencies of how to prepare our local produce and other produce using our signature methods and techniques as well as cater to the pallet of people of different cultures. This is likely to foster longevity of the local cuisine and maintain a particular standard of preparing foods. Moreover, since the course can be taken by any nationality, it will be a medium to market the local cuisine internationally. Most importantly, it is hoped that the emphasis on local cuisine will encourage practicing and up-coming food preparation personnel to develop even more creative ways of preparing our local produce.

The purpose of this course is to inspire you to explore the possibilities of teaching in innovative, educationally sound ways. It is a foundational course which can provide an impetus for a more detailed exploration of various aspects of innovative teaching and learning, both in terms of your own practice (as a stand-alone), but also specifically as a basis for the other courses. You will critically evaluate some current innovative approaches which are broadly constructivist in approach. By becoming familiar with some key concepts and some principles of instructional design, you will understand the need to adopt and foster a constructivist approach. You will be introduced to the habit of reflecting on your own practice, and also to discussion and collaboration within the group studying the module, thereby setting up those skills for future modules.

Today’s learners can use a variety of technologies to access knowledge resources and interact globally with people. These interactions create a digital society that affords learners opportunities for education, entertainment and social interaction. Most of today’s children are comfortable using technology, but may not use it efficiently, effectively or appropriately. Teachers can create learning experiences that foster specific digital literacy skills. They can also help learners understand their roles and responsibilities as responsible digital citizens who can participate in the knowledge economy.

This document or “toolkit” serves a few key purposes. First, it seeks to help those involved in the Open Educational Resource (OER) course development process do their work according to a few important underlying principles of good instructional design. Second, if you are a subject matter expert, curriculum developer, instructor, or administrator who has taken on the role of external reviewer, this toolkit should provide some clarity about what to expect from a well-designed course.

Garment production is an area of skill under high demand. Saint Lucia is known for its artistry in costume making for carnival and creative garment designs for the event ‘Hot Couture’. Garment production is a viable field because clothing is a commodity that is needed by everyone year round. However, there is need for fashion designers to be more innovative in their designs. A course in garment production has the potential to foster designers’ creativity by augmenting designs that already exist or crafting new ones. Upcoming designers will be given the opportunity to be trained and certified which are added boosts to their competencies and chances for employment and entrepreneurship.

This course has been developed to support the training of teachers to integrate ICT into their teaching practices. The materials, guides and activities are strongly aligned with the UNESCO ICT Competency Framework for Teachers (CFT).
While the course embraces the role ICT can bring to the classroom it is also not held prisoner by the need for high end or sophisticated technology platforms. The course can be deployed in areas of limited or no connectivity via CD ROM or memory stick as most of the resources have been previously downloaded and collected. There are also web and paper based versions of the lessons and guides.
This course uses materials that are Open Education Resources (OER) or free to use for educational purposes, allowing the use and distribution, and in some instances the repurposing of the materials, at no additional cost. (See the Open License tab for more information).
But most importantly we hope the lessons are fun and engaging enough to introduce new possibilities and refresh the participant's passion for teaching and learning.

A plain language guide to copyright in the 21st century
By Julien Hofman

Computers and the Internet have transformed the way we produce and distribute information and entertainment. And copyright is struggling to keep pace with these changes.

The authors of all kinds of works, from the humble email to blockbuster films, rely on copyright to protect what they produce. But authors and those who use their work are often unclear about what copyright allows and what it prohibits.

This book was written for those who want to learn about copyright in the 21st century. It explains copyright protection and what it means for copyright holders and copyright users. It also introduces readers to contemporary topics: digital rights management, open licences, software patents and copyright protection for works of traditional knowledge. A final chapter tries to predict how technology will change the publishing and entertainment industries that depend on copyright.

The book assumes no special knowledge and avoids technical language as much as possible.
