Throughout this unit you will cover topics of: to understand safety in a shop workspace & develop basic skills to operate woodworking machines to construct a project, a clear understanding of safety in the workplace, assess their knowledge over safety through a safety test, demonstration how to operate hand and power tools, decipher a blueprint to build a wooden candy dispenser and to construct their candy dispensers.

Students in the 1st grade are asked to write stories about what it is like to take a walk in the woods. Students will listen to a picture book, watch a video, and read a booklet to give background knowledge for their stories. You may also use information from your own walks in the woods! Includes reading booklet.

In this set of lessons, students will learn key terminology associated with rafters and roofing systems. A PowerPoint will guide students through key terminology. Following this, there are 2 videos that will display the step off system and the speed square method of rafter layout. Students will follow along with the videos to complete these tasks. Finally, there is a rafter activity that can be used at the end of this set of lessons.
