This web page contains an extensive list of Arabic proverbs. Each proverb is given an translation in the English language to make it easily understood by the learner; for some of the phrases, there is a further explanation of what is meant by the proverb, i.e. A needle in a haystack = something that is very difficult to find.

I used Google Translate to convert chapters of the US History OpenStax textbook to languages other than English by following these steps using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro:
1. download the .pdf
2. Open in Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro (or other program that allows altering a .pdf file)
3. Under "Document", select "Extract" then identify the pages (assigned by Adobe, not the textbook) to extract. The file should be about 1/2 of a chapter to submit to Google Translate, otherwise it's too large.
4. Save the extracted file under a new name.
5. Go to translate.google.com and: a) select the language to translate to; b) click on "Translate a whole document", then upload the extracted chapter portion.
6. The translation appears as a page in the browser (I use Google Chrome)
7. Right click on the page and "Save as" on your computer (html file).
8. Upload to your LMS or other website, or email to the target student(s). The page will open in their browser.

Although it's good for international students to learn and practice English in a formal setting, I feel it's unfair to test them on a subject they are completely unfamiliar with in a language they may not understand perfectly - double whammy! Translating can help even the playing field.

This Intermediate Algebra textbook was developed with consideration of neuroscience principles about learning. It is organized around the concepts of 'solving' and 'graphing'. The problem sets incorporate distributed and mixed practice to promote long term memory formation for the concepts and procedures involved in each section.

This website includes the entire Qur'an, searchable by chapter. An audio component is available for users to listen to the Qur'an as they are reading it in Arabic and in English translation. English words in red include exegesis of the term. The 'learn Arabic' portion of this Qur'an website includes analysis of Arabic grammatical structures. Included are charts of the alphabet, personal pronouns, prepositions, verbs and adverbs, and a verbal sentence equation that helps students construct sentences by choosing a subject, verb, and direct object.

This program allows the user to listen to any one of the verses of the Qur'an with subtitles in dozens of different languages. Most languages have more than one option for subtitle translation and users can select which translation they wish to use. Most translation choices are separated by the name of the translator. There is an option for 'literal' translation as well. Users can choose between three different reciters for the Qur'anic recitation.

This website includes information on all the verses of the Qur'an with both audio files as well as translations available. A portion of the website is accessible in Turkish. Information on verb conjugations, the measures system, pronouns, and other Arabic grammar lessons are available, as are lessons on how to read the Qur'an.

How do you read a poem? Intuition is not the only answer. In this class, we will investigate some of the formal tools poets use—meter, sound, syntax, word-choice, and other properties of language—as well as exploring a range of approaches to reading poetry, from the old (memorization and reading out loud) to the new (digitally enabled visualization and annotation). We will use readings available online via the generosity of the Poetry Foundation and the Academy of American Poets. We will also think collectively about how to approach difficult poems.

In this students will develop their knowledge of transformations as it applies to all functions.  This lesson focuses on linear, quadratic, absolute value, exponential and radical functions.  Students will need access to internet and graphing utilities.I have included the assessment I used to asses this unit. The UCLA Phonetics Lab Archive includes samples taken from Egyptian, Iraqi, Najdi, North and South Levantine, and Tunisian dialects. The Arabic recordings consist almost exclusively of word lists read aloud to illustrate small differences in the pronunciation of the words. The Phonetics Laboratory includes recordings of hundreds of languages and provides them for free as source materials for phonetic and phonological research. Phonetic transcriptions are included alongside the recordings as are translations and scans of original field notes where relevant.

This website links to a document that is a dual translation of the Qur'an into English, first word by word and then sentence by sentence. Such a translation clearly shows where each word and its meaning is placed in the Arabic text if there is any confusion about the English translation of a particular verse. The document is available separately chapter by chapter under the 'lughat' button of this website and also for sale via Amazon, although downloading is permissible via this website.
