“Dunia Fi Lubnan” is an online Arabic interactive storybook developed by Alefb multicultural center for children with support from Qatar Foundation International through a Curriculum Development grant.

The storybook is a fully illustrated interactive story, and includes interactive comprehension quiz questions prompted by "Nahla the bee" in English, playful drills to test reading, writing and comprehension, and cultural games from which the learner can accumulate points to earn a surprise gift from Alefb. The story of Dunia, stretched out over 22 fully illustrated pages, tells a tale about a young girl who tries to overcome her fear of speaking Arabic. Along the way, users are exposed to several interactive self-correcting drills, audio files, cultural authentic documents tackling a wide variety of learning topics based on the themes and lessons within Dunia's story. Animations, sounds, glossaries pages and English translation tools all provide helpful hints and aid the learner in staying engaged. “Dunia Fi Lubnan” is an integrated educational material in that it uses both Modern Standard Arabic, الفصحى and colloquial العامية.

The interactive and multimedia components are designed in part to enhance regular curricula for teaching Arabic as a foreign language to children, teens and even adults, individually or in a classroom setting.

Learners will be able to write a simple postcard using vocabulary from the following topics: Greetings, Feelings, Activities, Countries and Places, Colors, Food, Things and Family/Friends.

Authored by Belal Joundeya, the "Fly with Arabic" full text document is comprised of eight units, and features a variety of language-learning lessons tied together by fun themes, such as weather, sports, travel, school, and other hobbies and activities. The units focus on the acquisition of listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills, as well as knowledge of Arabic cultures and history.

Most units contain several lessons, including fill-in-the-blank exercises, open-ended writing practice, and word-matching games, that seek to reinforce specific learning outcomes, such as oral and written production, writing, and reading. Additionally, brief cultural drills are included in each unit, and are designed to add a cultural dimension to each unit's language activities. All units also contain self- assessment checklists to help monitor and measure the learner's progress during the unit.

In summary, through using a number of drills to produce vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, and speaking skills, including pictures, word-matching games, open-ended writing practice, and fill-in-the-blank exercises, the "Fly with Arabic" series seeks to connect all phases of Arabic-learning into one comprehensive package.

Modularity, Domain-specificity, and the Organization of Knowledge

This course will consider the degree and nature of the modular organization of the mind and brain. We will focus in detail on the domains of objects, number, places, and people, drawing on evidence from behavioral studies in human infants, children, normal adults, neurological patients, and animals, as well as from studies using neural measures such as functional brain imaging and ERPs. With these domains as examples, we will address broader questions about the role of domain-general and domain-specific processing systems in mature human performance, the innateness vs. plasticity of encapsulated cognitive systems, the nature of the evidence for such systems, and the processes by which people link information flexibly across domains.

Developed by Washington Latin Public Charter School, this thirty-nine slide Power Point presentation displays several pictures of popular, everyday destination places in the Arab world. The Power Point is thematically organized by a question (in Arabic) on its title slide - "Where are you going?" - and subsequent slides display popular places such as internet cafes, restaurants, homes, schools, and coffee shops.

Each slide is introduced by a question, "What is this?," and an answer "This is a...," both of which are in Arabic. Most pictures are authentic images taken on-location at several places throughout the Arab world, and thus feature prominent Arabic writing on signs, houses, advertisements, and so on.
