This is a series of presentations and activities that are designed to introduce students to Cognitive Development.  I have had success doing one of these every now and then as part of a history class.  Also, I have taught units on Child Development and Education where I used them all within the context of the same unit.  I like the spreading of these lessons throughtout the year in a high school setting, where students can sort of see it as a continuing series of interesting topics that break up the normal flow of learning.  

This open textbook was the result of a remix of pre-existing open materials collected and reviewed by Molly Zhou and David Brown. Learning theories covered include the theories of Piaget, Bandura, Vygotsky, Kohlberg, Dewey, Bronfenbrenner, Eriksen, Gardner, Bloom, and Maslow.

This set of lecture slides was created under a Round Four ALG Textbook Transformation Grant with an accompanying question library for tests and quizzes. The course uses the free and open Human Development sections of Boundless Psychology. Topics covered include:

This course is an introduction to cognitive development focusing on children's understanding of objects, agents, and causality. It develops a critical understanding of experimental design. The course discusses how developmental research might address philosophical questions about the origins of knowledge, appearance and reality, and the problem of other minds. It provides instruction and practice in written communication as needed for cognitive science research (including critical reviews of journal papers, a literature review and an original research proposal), as well as instruction and practice in oral communication in the form of a poster presentation of a journal paper.

O objetivo é compartilhar materiais sobre os processos cognitivos envolvidos na aquisição da leitura e da escrita. Acredito que os materiais possam auxiliar profissionais da educação, como também as famílias. Em decorrência, penso que muitas crianças podem ser beneficiadas pela disseminação deste conhecimento tão importante para que os processos de leitura e escrita possam se desenvolver com mais tranquilidade.
