MOSAIC selects, reviews, and promotes books that authentically and realistically portray the diversity of all students, from both historical and contemporary perspectives.

Every resource is reviewed by ESU 18 committee members for accuracy, authenticity, content and perspective, characterization, setting, and literary quality. Only the "best of the best" resources are included in the annual MOSAIC collection.

This downloadeable resource guide, for instructors and students in introductory astronomy courses, focuses on the contributions to astronomy of African, Asian, Hispanic, South Pacific, Islamic, and Native American cultures. It also contains a section on reports and articles for achieving greater diversity in science. Written by Andrew Fraknoi, the guide is part of a series sponsored by the Heliophysics Forum of the Space Missions Directorate at NASA. It includes written, on-line, and audio-visual materials, which can be used directly in the classroom, for student papers, or for personal enrichment.

The First Note music curriculum is made up of 30 complete multi-cultural lessons broken down into 4-5 separate videos for each lesson. The program incorporates proven methods of music instruction developed by Carl Orff (Orff Schulwerk), Emile Jacques Dalcroze, Zoltan Kodaly and others. Video teaching tips are also included.

The program is a standards-based music program for use in Kindergarten and 1st Grade classrooms. Best of all, it's designed to be facilitated by all K-1 school teachers, and as an aid to all music instructors.

The primary purpose of this seminar is to enable students to craft approaches to so-called "First World"/ "Third World" city comparisons that are theoretically sophisticated, methodologically rigorous, contextually grounded, and significantly beneficial. Since there exists very little literature and very few projects which compare "First World" and "Third World" cities in a sophisticated and genuinely useful manner, the seminar is structured around a series of readings, case studies, and discussions to assist students in becoming mindful of the potential and pitfalls of comparative analysis, the types of data, the methods of analysis, and the urban issues or sectors which may benefit the most from such approaches. The course is designed to be interdisciplinary and interactive, and is geared towards masters and doctoral students.

The materials in this OER collection are designed to complement the course, Social Studies Education in a Multicultural Society. This course, designed for senior-level students in an elementary education teacher preparation program, explores the foundations, themes, content, and pedagogies of elementary social studies education in a multicultural society. Presented as a series of video episodes, each episode focuses on a foundational element of social studies teaching and learning. From curriculum frameworks to national social studies publications to historical thinking to geographic awareness, each episode is meant to support the development of the elementary social studies teacher.

This workshop attempts to merge fundamental issues of gifted education with those of multicultural education, from the perspective of the culturally diverse classroom/community to the global village. Participants will learn some of basics of differentiating for gifted students in both a mainstreamed and honors/gifted classroom. Participants will learn about the under-representation of minority students in gifted classes and honors programs, and study strategies for “closing the achievement gap.”
