https://www.oercommons.org/courses/solving-linear-equations-with-the-function-analyzer
Use a digital function analyzer to reveal the connection between symbolic and graphic representations of equation solving. Plot multiple equations and use the analyzer to solve systems of equations, investigate how a functions symbolic representation relates to its graphical representation, and use tools that make it clear what changes in the equation relate to changes in the graph. The Concord ConsortiumEducationMathematicsAlgebraFunctions2015-08-17T15:57:45.248929Course Related MaterialsAnalyzing and Making Mathematical and Historical Claims from (Linear) Data Representations

A statistics lesson on describing and making claims from data representations, specifically linearly increasing data. Applies ideas of rate-of-change to develop writing a linear equation to fit the data, using the equation to interpolate and extrapolate additional information, and integrating the mathematical interpretation appropriately into a social sciences argument.Sarah AhmedJohanna LangillMathematics and Statistics2015-07-31T02:51:49.388819authored materialsLine of Best Fit

When data is displayed with a scatter plot, it is often useful to attempt to represent that data with the equation of a straight line for purposes of predicting values that may not be displayed on the plot. Such a straight line is called the "line of best fit." In this activity, students discover the relationship between the fat grams and the total calories in fast food by graphing the given data, estimate the line of best fit using a strand of spaghetti, calculate the slope of that line, and translate it into an equation. Then, they use that equation to predict information not originally included in the scatter plot.Roberts, DonnaEducationMathematicsAlgebraSocial Sciences2015-06-02T13:17:02.922876Course Related MaterialsLinear Systems: Using Algebra

Students learn to solve a system of linear equations (2 equations with 2 variables) by substitution and elimination methods. They also review the definitions of consistent (independent and dependent) and inconsistent systems, and associate the number of solutions of a system with them. Detailed instructions guide students in using their graphing calculators to solve the systems of equations.MathematicsAlgebra2015-06-02T13:17:02.587935Course Related Materials
