These 7 C’s of Communication have been explained in much detail for those who have been studying Communication. While working with students on the concept of essentials of effective communication, I felt that there is a set of three, which seems to work for me when it comes to delivering a successful and sustained communication. The same has worked in the perfect way for those who have mentored me. It is said that ‘Communication is what it does.’ And it should do exactly what we call 'effective'.

Communication is an art to express ideas and thoughts to people. Listening-Speaking-Reading-Writing remains the fundamental parts of communication. Whereas Listening and Reading are Receptive; Speaking and Writing are Expressive faculties. Communication can be divided into three basic components: they are Presentation Skills (a combination of verbal and non-verbal communication), Writing Skills and Conversation Skills. According to research, any communication includes 7 per cent spoken words, 38 per cent voice and tone, and 55 per cent body language. It is an interesting fact that 93 per cent of our daily communication is non-verbal. Females are found to have much better visual and auditory skills. Here in this essay, we are strictly confining ourselves to its non-verbal aspect.

The Parts of Speech

As each language has its own alphabet, it also has its own grammar. For English, all the words we see are divided into nine classes or categories. These classes are called Parts of Speech. The dictionaries we use always mention the category of the word and tell us if a word is used in multiple categories of the Parts of Speech.
Knowing the grammar of a language will not enable fluency in your speaking or writing, but it helps. Knowing the functions of the elements of language (i.e. words) helps us in their appropriate and accurate use. This preamble is necessary so as to make us read the definitions and explanations as a new thing; devoid of the stereotyping that happened to us at schools.

Teachers face clashes each day. These are of denials and dejection. The classrooms have been failing to keep the children attentive and dedicated to the instructions. The participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular has declined across the institutions. There was a time when we saw, not just huge numbers but, an immense amount of enthusiasm for cultural and literary events. Now. people who are at the helm of affairs are getting passive; they have actually got trapped in a vicious circle of academic duties.

Students know the worth of participation as it gets them certificates and points for jobs. There was a time when participation was selfless and the belonging was quite visible. Teachers and Students were mad about doing their best and the outcome was a healthy competition. As event management team volunteers, anchors, and announcers, we Learned to Learn. And the by-products of that learning have come automatically in the form of careers and recognised versatility at the workplace.

Powtoon and the Goodness of Animated Contents

This blog post is a thanksgiving to Powtoon for their pleasant gesture of supporting the act of teaching. I wrote to them that their free account limitations are hampering the way we need to help the students stuck at home. Citing the Coronavirus and the subsequent lockdown, I asked for an increase in the time limit of videos we can make on their free account.
Helen Keller said that the most pathetic person in the world is someone who has sight, but no vision. Our visions prompt us to see the beauty and uniqueness of things around. We also want to make things that move swiftly through the eyes of the viewers to their heart and make an appreciated mark on their intellects.

The animation is the key and the lock as well in this case. We lock our creativity and content in small Powtoon work and let it reach the learners. They use the same key and open it to unleash an abundance of interesting screening on the devices.

Resume Writing

Why do we need a 'Good' Resume? We do not get a job just by sending a good one, rather we get a call for the Interview. This is what we need to remember.

I am no one to give policy statement on Resume Making. None of us can dictate a perfect resume. However, it is not a discouragement to anyone. We need to make a good one, which earns a call for the interview. The employers may not be looking at the quality of paper, but they are more keen to know what possibilities you carry. The Resume/CV you send is a 'selling document'. You sell your skills and in this barter system, you get an opportunity to work with the skills and expertise you have demonstrated.

We Need Teachers with Exceptional Substance

India was not a World Leader in education because there were standardised and policy-bound selection criteria in that age. We had teachers who actually wanted to teach and they were allowed to make an impact in the lives of the disciples. Now, teachers are hired and there are more employed-individuals than teachers.

The age-old discussions and international summits have not resulted in any remedy for the dying educational institutions in India. In most parts of the New India landscape, we see a dearth of actual teachers. When I make this strong distinction between the in-job individuals and teachers, I really mean to create a case to debate further. Argue in favour of rationality and the pertinent need of education.

Who is a Teacher? The one who earns a bundle of degrees and then qualifies some particular tests and presents the candidature in a selection interview. Acknowledging that the eligibility to apply, qualifying the tests and interviews does ensure the selection. Hence the thus selected teacher must be able to deliver well, must be able to lead the students to a new dawn in their life as ‘he himself or she herself’ has been free from academic and life vices and is capable of imparting skills as well as values. All said and heard. What is the condition of the world around us now?

Zoom App for Learning Online

CC BY-NC-SA

Let me introduce you to ZOOM Meetings. This is a video conferencing platform with customisation that suits online classes. Teachers can do a lot even by using its free account which offers 40 minutes of the online session in one go.

Please remember that your reluctance is of no value to you. If you do not want to take your face, your voice can also be there as you can stop the video. Use the name of the next speaker when you close your virtual speech in video conference so that the other one can start. It will avoid the abrupt overlaps of speakers.

It is possible to use Zoom on Desktop with Webcam/Laptop or the smartphone you have. Install the Zoom Application for your desktop version or use the App for the phone. Using the Desktop version, you can schedule the meetings with ease and can also record the whole meeting being the Host. It is possible to share the screen or a particular window/screen with the students. You can join a meeting using the Application if someone else is hosting it.
