In this book I also consider indigenous (First Nations, Inuit, and Metis) perspective and equity, diversity, and inclusivity (EDI) issues. The book works as a roadmap to a journey of responsible management and includes links and references to current research articles and websites with topical examples, learning outcomes, key take-aways, reflective questions, and suggested additional readings. The textbook is organized into eleven chapters within four sections, each addressing a particular part of the learning journey: starting the journey, societal integration of responsible management, responsible management and business considerations, sustainability and sustainable development. Instructors can choose to present each chapter according to their particular curricular focus and course learning outcomes over a 6, 8, or 12 week semester. Each chapter is organized so that they can be read on their own or supplemented by the referenced or suggested readings. Instructors can use the suggested reflective questions or create their own based on the topical material. In the end, the learning journey starts and ends with the learner and so the intent of this book is to make it an accessible and relevant journey considering the many wicked problems that are found today.

Introduction to Incubation for Sustainability Innovation
Conditional Remix & Share Permitted
CC BY-NC-SA
Rating
0.0 stars

Innovation and incubation are no longer limited to technological or science-based business perspective, rather, there has been a move towards social innovations and incubators focused on supporting ventures to develop these types of innovations. These innovations are important for society as they focus on public interest and common good and in strengthening the bonds of trust between citizens. They also find new solutions and approaches to address sustainability issues within societies.
Ventures that look to develop social innovations are often driven by social entrepreneurs, who form social ventures (SEs) and they often work through a market based approach. They take on the risks and efforts to create a positive change in society. As such, their main goal is not profit, rather to implement widespread improvements in society.
This e-study will guide readers through the incubation process, explore the concept of social innovation and the situation in Hong Kong as well as how incubators fit in with the greater social innovation ecosystem and contribute to sustainability.

Short Description:
This text is designed to provide an introduction to the nonprofit sector. It is designed to help readers understand the definition of the sector, its role in society, and the key questions facing it. The book also considers the growing numbers and influence of social enterprises and other “social innovation” organizations.

Long Description:
Nonprofit organizations are on the front lines in communities, providing an important foundation for the social safety net in the United States and around the world. They also provide places where people can gather, share ideas and build community. They often accomplish amazing feats with few resources. This book was designed to be used in an undergraduate-level introductory course in the nonprofit sector. It provides an overview of the vocabulary used in defining the work of nonprofit organizations, topics of interest to nonprofit managers, and describes the primary roles nonprofits play in American (and to a lesser extent international) communities. The book also considers the growing numbers and influence of social enterprises and other “social innovation” organizations. Throughout, it brings in leading themes of accountability, ethics and obligations facing many nonprofit organizations as they go about their work – challenges that should be well understood by anyone interested in becoming a leader in the nonprofit sector.

This five-day interactive and experiential workshop focuses on how leaders lead innovations that both promote social responsibility and produce business success. The workshop is organized around three main parts: observation, sense-making, and creating. During the observation phase, students spend a full day inside the Boston office of the design company IDEO and visit some of the most interesting proven innovators in corporate social responsibility such as Ben & Jerry’s, KLD, MBDC, Plug Power (fuel cell technology), PwC, Schlumberger, or core team members of the UN Global Compact. After returning from their company visits, students describe to one another what they saw and learned. In the final part of the Lab, students conceive and implement innovation projects that serve the needs of a local community. Mapping Margery Kempe

Margery Kempe's spiritual biography is often called the first autobiography in English. A married woman who attempted to live a life devoted to Christ, Margery sought official Church recognition for her status as a spiritual woman and mystic, while continuing to live and travel in the secular world. She experienced intense emotional visionary encounters with Christ, which have at times a strikingly homely quality. Her Book, dictated by her to a scribe, records these visions as well as her travels in Europe and pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Her particular spiritual trial, according to her Book, was to be misrepresented, persecuted, and rejected by many of her clerical and lay peers. The recording of her spiritual life, despite severe difficulties and her own illiteracy, became a symbolic act in itself, representing both her claim to spiritual status and evidence of her special relationship with God. Rich in detail about the people and places Margery encountered, the Book is a rich and fascinating record of life in turbulent early 15th century England. Mapping Margery Kempe is a digital library of resources for studying the cultural and social matrix of The Book of Margery Kempe. A goal of this site is to provide access to the material culture of Kempe's 15th century world, and especially the dynamic world of the parish. Materials at this site include a unique and extensive database of images of East Anglican parish churches. Other resources include the Middle English text and related devotional writings and saints' lives; documents about daily life, politics and commerce in 15th century Lynn; maps of pilgrimage routes; a gallery of devotional images; and bibliography and guides for teaching.

Principles of Marketing teaches the experience and process of actually doing marketing - not just the vocabulary. NewPara https://doi.org/10.24926/8668.1901 ISBN: 978-1-946135-19-3

Long Description:
Principles of Marketing is adapted from a work produced by a publisher who has requested that they and the original author not receive attribution. This adapted edition is produced by the University of Minnesota Libraries Publishing through the eLearning Support Initiative.

Principles of Marketing teaches the experience and process of actually doing marketing – not just the vocabulary. It carries five dominant themes throughout in order to expose students to marketing in today’s environment:

Service dominant logic — This textbook employs the term ”offering“ instead of the more traditional First “P” — product. That is because consumers don’t sacrifice value when alternating between a product and a service. They are evaluating the entire experience, whether they interact with a product, a service, or a combination. So the fundamental focus is providing value throughout the value chain, whether that value chain encompasses a product, service, or both.

Sustainability — Increasingly, companies are interested in the impact they are having on their local community as well as the overall environment. This is often referred to as the ”triple bottom line“ of financial, social, and environment performance.

Ethics and social responsibility — Following on the sustainability notion is the broader importance of ethics and social responsibility in creating successful organizations. The authors make consistent references to ethical situations throughout chapter coverage, and end of chapter material in most chapters will encompass ethical situations.

Global coverage — the authors deliberately entitled Chapter 1 ”What is Marketing?“ Whether it is today’s price of gasoline, the current U.S. presidential race, or Midwestern U.S. farming, almost every industry and company needs strong global awareness. And today’s marketing professionals must understand the world in which they and their companies operate.

Metrics — Firms today have the potential to gather more information than ever before about their current and potential customers. That information gathering can be costly, but it can also be very revealing. With the potential to capture so much more detail about micro transactions, firms should now be more able to answer ”well, what this marketing strategy really worth it?“ And ”what is the marketing ROI?“ And finally, ”what is this customer or set of customers worth to us over their lifetime?“

Modern Poetry

This course considers some of the substantial early twentieth-century poetic voices in America. Authors vary, but may include Moore, Frost, Eliot, Stevens, and Pound.
We'll read the major poems by the most important poets in English in the 20th century, emphazinig especially the period between post-WWI disillusionment and early WW II internationalism (ca. 1918-1940). Our special focus this term will be how the concept of "the Image" evolved during this period. The War had undercut beliefs in master-narratives of nationalism and empire, and the language-systems that supported them (religious transcendence, rationalism and formalism). Retrieving energies from the Symbolist movements of the preceding century, early 20th century poets began to rethink how images carry information, and in what ways the visual, visionary, and verbal image can take the place of transcendent beliefs. New theories of linguistics and anthropology helped to advance this interest in the artistic/religious image. So did Freud. So did Charlie Chaplin films.
We'll read poems that pay attention both to this disillusionment and to the compensatory joyous attention to the image: to ideas of the poet-as-language-priest, aesthetic-experience-as-displaced-religious impulse, to poetry as faith, ritual, and form.
