The purpose of this course is to systematically examine the elements and factors which result in an effective speech. Tying these together are the themes of information and ethics, emphasized in each resource because they are becoming increasingly important to all communicators. Much like good writing, good public speaking requires preparation, organization and structure. This course will provide you with the tools for presenting your thoughts and ideas to others, orally, as you practice speaking to your peers. This course will also enable you to become a more discerning consumer of speeches – including political oratory.

SYNOPSIS: In this lesson, students discuss three effective strategies for talking about climate change, then write and present a speech using the three strategies.

SCIENTIST NOTES: This lesson encourages students to think about the words they use and how to effectively communicate their thoughts and opinions with others. The authors focus on the process of speech making because they have created this book to be a user-friendly guide to creating, researching, and presenting public speeches.
