This resource shares all of the documents and planning guidance for the Washington Climate Educator Book Club, which is part of the greater ClimeTime community.  The Book Club’s book study is designed to flexibly support teams of interdisciplinary K–12 educators, from schools and districts across Washington, to explore ways climate education can be integrated into all classrooms.

In the first part of this video introduction to combinatorics, we introduce factorial notation to efficiently describe the ways we can arrange distinguishable objects in a row. Next, we count the combinations of L objects that can be grabbed from a container of L + N total objects. Finally, we use the formula for combinations to derive the binomial theorem.

This lesson focuses on comparing and ordering fractions in ways that encourage deeper understanding of’ ‘number sense’ by supporting learners to consider different techniques to order and compare fractions with different numerators and denominators. The three techniques covered in this lesson are those used to compare fractions with like numerators or denominators, unlike numerators or denominators and by comparing to a 1/2 benchmark. Emphasis are placed on the two latter techniques. Activities and practice exercises involve real-world problems including sales discounts, cooking measurements and school score reports.

Building textual evidence through close reading of texts is a core proficiency addressed by the Common Core State Standards.
